Driver Tip #4: Step-sequences.

Too many golfers are stagnant
in their golf swing, which destroys rhythm and flow. Even the most prolific athletes seem to tense-up once they get a golf club in their hands.

One of my favorite things to program to overcome this are step-sequences.

There are many variations you can use, and all have a distinct purpose.

These drills can be done with a driver, a speed trainer, a training aid, a rope, etc.

Sometimes, removing the “golf” element allows for freedom of movement, and gives players the ability to feel what it’s like to move efficiently.

Remember, the golf swing is an ATHLETIC movement.

Give these step-drills a try and see how your swing changes for the better!

Throwback to the furthest baseball I’ve ever hit… ⚾️💣
alumni game 2017 🟤⚪️

Was told it one-hopped the soccer/lax field, so ~515ft?

Power is power. Rotation is rotation.

Training & development is the same. All that changes is the size of the ball.

PS, always make sure to let the pitcher know you got it.

Driver Tip #3: The split-grip drill.

Too many golfers are in a compromised position at the top of the backswing, which leads to an inefficient transition, and loss of power.

As someone who struggles with a flying trail elbow (thank you baseball), the split-grip drill with the driver is one of the best drills I’ve found to really feel how your arms need to work in unison/stay connected as you complete the backswing.

Rory Mcilroy is arguably the greatest driver of the golf ball in PGA Tour history, and I’ve seen him on multiple occasions demonstrate a version of this drill as one of his go-to feels.

This also doesn’t need to be done with a club. Sometimes a larger object (ie a pvc pipe) can exaggerate and enhance the movement, which makes it even easier to translate it back to the club.

Give this drill a try, and see how much it strengthens your positioning at the top of the swing!

Driver Tip #2: Create depth with the trail arm.

Too many gofers have a misunderstanding of how to optimally use the trail arm to increase speed.

With the trail arm/elbow, I typically see a position that is too flat/attached to the body, or a flying elbow with too much internal rotation. Both of these make it easy to fall out of position in the transition, which leads to inconsistent ball striking.

Instead, allow the trail scapula to retract + the trail shoulder to go into adduction, while the forearm/elbow supports the weight of the club. This allows for a natural widening of the swing, creating a shallower approach and more time to apply speed as we transition to the downswing.

Driver Tip #1: Put Force on the Handle

So many golfers miss an early opportunity to start generating power by not being aggressive with their takeaway.

The most common fault I see with players is a tendency to lift with the arms/shoulders. Not only can this shift the swing plane, but there is no force or momentum created to carry you into the backswing (and power your downswing).

Throw a range stick in the ground, and practice forcefully applying pressure at the beginning of the takeaway.

When you grab your driver, you’ll immediately notice a swifter, more intentional backswing.
