ORFORD, N.H. -- Green Mountain came away with its first win of the season yesterday at Rivendell Academy.

Hadley Cenate, Delilah Hodgdon, and Izzy Gibson scored for GM.

The Grizzlies (1-3) face Leland & Gray in their next contest on Friday at 8 p.m. at Dorsey Park in Ludlow.

TOWNSHEND, Vt. -- Leland & Gray held a 1-0 edge throughout most of regulation before Springfield's Mateo Fuentes tied this afternoon's contest by capitalizing on a penalty kick in the 67th minute.

Fuentes' goal helped the Cosmos force overtime, but the extra-frame was short-lived for Springfield after Leland & Gray struck early to secure a 2-1 victory.

Springfield is now 1-2 on the season and will look to get back on track on Friday at Woodstock.

WALPOLE, N.H. -- Fall Mountain was one of three teams in a close battle for the top spot in today's four-team match at Hooper Golf Course. The Wildcats fell just short of Laconia and Trinity, but picked up a win against local rival Stevens.

Perry Lent led Fall Mountain with a 42, Owen Nachajski was right on his heels at 43, Carson Bruzgis was next at 45, and James Cheeney rounded out the scoring with a 47.

Fall Mountain is now 5-4 on the season and heads to Beaver Meadow Golf Course for its next match on September 16.

The Fall Mountain boys’ varsity soccer team picked up its third win in four to start the season as they rolled past Monadnock 5-0 Tuesday in Swanzey.

Maito Kishi recorded a hat-trick and Elias Tsitsonis added a couple goals as Fall Mountain moved to 3-1 on the season. Tsitsonis opened the scoring for the Wildcats with a composed finish before Kishi added a second goal for Fall Mountain.

The visitors started the second quickly with Tsitsonis and Kishi scoring early on. Kishi rounded off the scoring by completing his hat-trick midway through the second half. Five different Fall Mountain players picked up assists with Devyn Martin, Azyi Crews, Oliver Shand, Malachi Bactad, and Kishi providing the final pass.

The Wildcats are next in action on Thursday with a trip to Bishop Brady.

The Fall Mountain Boys Varsity soccer team lost their first game of the season on Friday night in Langdon, going down 2-1 to Kearsarge.

The Wildcats took a first-half lead after strong work from Joseph Paulette in midfield set up Quinn Mitchell just outside the box. The senior striker produced a rasping drive that beat the Kearsarge goalkeeper to the far post to make it 1-0.

In the second half, after a lengthy stoppage due to an injury, the game resumed with both teams contesting every loose ball in a physical match. Kearsarge scored on a penalty kick with less than 15 minutes left to tie the game, then found the winning goal off a corner kick with less than five minutes remaining.

Fall Mountain head coach George Tsitsonis was pleased with the performance of his team: "We learned about ourselves tonight against one of the top teams in our division. I can't single out anyone because it was a committed performance by everyone on and off the pitch. If we can continue in this same spirit, then we will have a real shot at achieving the goals we have set. I'm really proud of our guys for the way they battled through all 80 minutes."

The Wildcats drop to 2-1 on the season with the defeat and will look to bounce back when they travel to play Monadnock in Swanzey on Tuesday at 4:00 PM.

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. -- If you watched only the first play of last night's game between the Springfield Cosmos and the Brattleboro Bears, you witnessed a pretty accurate snapshot of how the rest of the contest went.

A seemingly benign opening kickoff floated towards Brattleboro's 25-yard line only for it to go soaring 10 yards forward off the returners chest and into the hands of Springfield's Garrett Brickey.

Four plays later the Cosmos were off to the races when Maddox Wilson found Dmitri Jasinski on a 1-yard touchdown pass.

Springfield would capitalize on several miscues by the Bears throughout the night en route to a 36-0 victory at Brown Field.

Brattleboro had a punt blocked on the following possession by Springfield senior Mitchell Shaw and followed it up on their next possession with an 8-yard punt which flew immediately out of bounds .

Penalties also plagued Brattleboro, but they managed to remain within one score until Wilson found Jasinski again on a 6-yard touchdown pass to give the Cosmos a 12-0 edge with eleven seconds remaining until halftime.

Josiah Martinez helped Springfield open the game up after the break by returning the opening kickoff 72 yards. He followed it up by going untouched through a massive hole created by the offensive line for a 17-yard touchdown run.

While the back-to-back plays by Martinez may have broken the game open, what happened on the Cosmos next drive put the nail in the coffin for Brattleboro.

Facing fourth-and-1 in Brattleboro territory, Springfield lined up in punt formation. The Bears appeared baffled when Dmitri Jasinski took off with the snap and raced 47 yards to the endzone to increase the lead to 24-0.

Jasinski added another touchdown later in the quarter and Tanner Thurston found paydirt on a 1-yard run to round out the scoring for the Cosmos.

As impressive as the win was for Springfield, they did fail to score on all six of their 2-point and point after touchdown attempts, so look for that to be a point of emphasis in practice this week.

Jasinski led a balanced offensive attack for Springfield with 71 total yards and 4 touchdowns and Maddox Wilson connected with Jasinski 3 times through the air for scores.

Springfield (1-0) heads to Beekmantown (NY) for its only out-of-state game of the season on Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

WESTMINSTER, Vt. -- With several intriguing matchups on the week one slate in the Green Mountain State, it would be easy to understand anyone who overlooked tonight's contest at Hadley Field.

Coming off of a winless season which included a 50-6 loss against Bellows Falls, North Country appeared to be a clear underdog against the defending Division III State Champions.

Despite the seemingly uneven matchup, North Country managed to go back and-forth with Bellows Falls for more than two-and-a-half hours.

While North Country managed to keep the contest close the entire way, it had nothing to do with their defense as the Terriers reached the endzone on each of their first five possessions.

Bellows Falls amassed a whopping 336 yards of offense in the first half yet managed to hold just a 36-28 edge at the break after North Country's Gemari Thompson had two long kickoff returns for touchdowns and the Falcons completed two scoring drives of their own.

The Terriers and the Falcons continued to put up points in the second half with both teams reaching the endzone on each of their first two possessions before North Country forced Bellows Falls to punt for the first time early in the fourth quarter.

North Country capitalized with an 8-play 94-yard drive to claim a 49-48 advantage with 3:58 remaining.

The Terriers weren't about to be stopped again, however, and they quickly traveled 80 yards on the ground in 7 plays. Jaden Bazin punctuated the drive with a 12-yard touchdown run where he powered through multiple defenders on his way to the endzone. Bazin added the 2-point conversion to give BF a 56-49 lead with 2:14 left to play.

North Country had one final chance to tie the game or take the lead, but Saul James intercepted his second pass of the game to seal the victory for the purple-and-white.

Jaden Bazin (253 yards), Bryer Barnett (175 yards), and Saul James (100 yards) all reached triple digits on the ground for the Terriers who posted 608 yards of total offense.

Bellows Falls (1-0) heads to Fair Haven (1-0) next on Friday, September 11 at 7 p.m. The Slaters opened the season with a 48-6 victory against U-32.
