WESTMINSTER, Vt. -- Bellows Falls put together a couple of big innings to break away for a 9-5 victory over Woodstock in the VPA Division III Semifinals this afternoon.

It is the first time the Terriers have advanced to the state finals since 2016.

Woodstock raced out to a 2-0 lead before Peyton Haskins jump-started the Terriers offense with an opposite field single to lead off the bottom of the third inning. Brock Lovell got on base next after being hit by a pitch and Jackson Fletcher moved both runners into scoring position with a well-executed sacrifice bunt.

With first base open, Woodstock elected to pitch to Jaden Bazin and he made them pay. Bazin launched the ball over the right fielder's head and off the fence to drive in both runners with a stand-up triple.

A couple of batters later, Steve Joslyn roped a two-out single to center field to drive in Bazin and give the Terriers a 3-2 edge.

Bellows Falls added another run in the fourth inning, but Woodstock responded with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to gain a 5-4 advantage.

The bottom of the sixth inning got off to a familiar start when Peyton Haskins led off with another opposite field single. Brock Lovell (single) and Jackson Fletcher (walk) kept the momentum going to load the bases for Bazin.

Bazin came through again by blasting a double to right-center which drove in all three runners. Steve Joslyn and Saul James each drove in another run to give the Terriers a 9-5 edge entering the final frame.

Woodstock put a couple of runners on base, but Jacob Kissell took over with two outs and struck out the final batter to secure the win.

Bellows Falls (13-3) will face top-seeded Thetford (15-0) in the state finals on Saturday. Thetford is the defending champion in Division III, while Bellows Falls will be looking for its first state title since 1999.
