LUDLOW, Vt. -- Andrei Solzhenitsyn drilled a walk-off line drive to left field to give Ludlow Post 36 a 3-2 victory over Bellows Falls Post 37 this evening at Pullinen Field in Ludlow.

In a game which featured only 7 hits combined between Ludlow and Bellows Falls, Solzhenitsyn was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double to pace the hosts.

Tanner Swisher also had a big night at the plate for Ludlow, going 2-for-3 with a walk, while also holding BF to only 2 hits over 6 innings on the mound.

Milo Tucker relieved Swisher in the 7th inning and needed only 8 pitches to dispatch the first three batters for Post 37.

Tim Fletcher had two hits to pace BF offensively and Pat Connors found his way on base three times via walk. Connors was also strong on the mound, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs over 5 innings.

Both squads have double-headers scheduled for Saturday with Ludlow (3-2) heading to Bennington and Bellows Falls (1-2) hosting Lakes Region.

WESTMINSTER, Vt. -- Bellows Falls Post 37 scored first, and they scored last, but it wasn't enough to overcome a couple of big innings during White River Junction Post 84's 11-5 victory last night at Hadley Field.

Bellows Falls struck first in the second inning when Peyton Haskins hit a hard grounder up the middle which skipped past the shortstop to drive home Paul Young.

White River Junction knotted the game at one in the third inning before adding another run in the fourth.

The visitors kept the momentum going in the fifth inning, plating three more runs to claim a 5-1 advantage.

White River Junction put the game seemingly out of reach in the top half of the seventh inning with a six-run outburst, but Bellows Falls battled back with four runs of their own to make things interesting before the final out was secured.

Tim Fletcher, Eli Allbee, Steve Joslyn, and Devyn Cheeney each recorded hits in the final inning to spark the rally for BF.

Bellows Falls (1-1) is back in action today at Ludlow at 5:30 p.m.

RUTLAND, Vt. -- Ludlow Post 36 was unable to get the bats going during an 8-0 defeat against Rutland Post 31 on Tuesday at St. Peter's Field.

Rutland's David Franzoni took a no-hitter into the fifth inning that was broken up by a double from Milo Tucker.

Evan Farrar recorded the other hit for Ludlow with a single in the sixth inning.

Despite only registering two hits, Ludlow loaded the bases in the fifth inning and had two runners on base with no outs in the sixth before Rutland worked its way out of both jams.

Ludlow hosts Bellows Falls in its next contest on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

LUDLOW, Vt. -- Ludlow Post 36 split its home doubleheader yesterday against White River Junction to move to 2-1 on the season.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning before White River Junction broke away with a 4-run third inning.

Mason Parker and Milo Tucker recorded the only hits for Ludlow.

Ludlow's bats came alive in the evening tilt, with home runs by Aidan Garvey and Milo Tucker fueling a 6-5 victory for Post 36.

White River Junction held a 3-1 edge entering the fifth inning before a five-run outburst by Ludlow gave them a lead they would never relinquish.

Matthew Studin started the game on the mound for Ludlow and allowed only 1 earned over 4 innings. Mason Parker and Evan Farrar helped secure the victory in relief for Post 36.

Ludlow (2-1) heads to Rutland Post 31 for its next contest on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

FAIR HAVEN, Vt. -- Ludlow Post 36 opened the American Legion Baseball season with a 5-1 victory over Lakes Region Post 49/50/87 last night in Fair Haven.

Ludlow struck first with 2 runs in the top of the first inning before adding 2 more in the fifth and one in the seventh.

Tanner Swisher threw a gem for Ludlow, allowing only 2 hits and no runs while striking out 8 over 6 innings of work.

Ludlow manufactured its runs with a combination of 6 base hits, 7 walks, and 6 stolen bases. Offensive leaders for Ludlow included Caleb Bess with 2 hits, Swisher with 2 runs scored, and Milo Tucker with 2 stolen bases.

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Green Mountain seniors Ian Bernier, Sophia Cherubini, and Wyatt Koch were some of the standouts at the Vermont High School Decathlon State Championship over the past two days at Burlington High School.

Bernier was the top finisher locally, placing 5th out of 75 competitors for the boys.

The senior's versatility was on full display throughout the two-day event, as he earned top twenty finishes in nine out of the ten events. Bernier's best event was pole vault, where he took the top spot by clearing 11'11.75".

Sophia Cherubini was the top local finisher on the girls' side, placing 16th out of 82 athletes. Cherubini finished in the top ten in four events, including pole vault (6th), javelin (9th), shot put (9th), and high jump (10th).

Wyatt Koch placed 22nd overall for the boys, but the senior really made his mark in the throwing events with victories in shot put and discus and a runner-up finish in javelin.

Bellows Falls also competed, with freshmen boys Colton Shanks and Brady Benoit placing 30th and 46th, respectively. Shanks' top finishes were in long jump (9th) and the 100-meter dash (11th), and Benoit placed 13th in pole vault.

Green Mountain's Kord Hinkley (11th in javelin, 54th overall), Isaiah Bonneville (18th in long jump, 57th overall), Mackenzie Koch (36th in discus, 52nd overall), and Sarah Birmingham (45th in discus) also had strong finishes for the Grizzlies.

Following a season where Fall Mountain posted an overall record 13-5 and earned an appearance in the Division III quarterfinals, the Baseball Coaches Association of New Hampshire recognized three of their players on its 2026 Division III All-State Teams.

Senior Devyn Cheeney earned first team honors after serving as Fall Mountain's ace pitcher and a standout at the plate throughout the season.

Junior Keegan White earned 2nd team honors for his contributions at the plate and on the mound and junior catcher and leadoff hitter Paul Young received a 3rd team nod.

Cheeney and Young will be playing across the river this summer as members of the Bellows Falls Post 37 American Legion team. Cheeney and Young both started during yesterday's 14-5 victory against Bennington Post 13.
