🦅 Eagle Scout Project Alert: Trail Improvements & Temporary Closures 🌿
We are excited to announce that Michael Mitchell from Athens, IL Troop 52 is bringing his Eagle Scout project to Lewis Park & Trails!
Michael will be leading the beginning of a massive effort to remove invasive honeysuckle from Lewis Park. They will be working in the southeast corner of the park and cover approximately 1.25 acres of area. His hard work will be the foundation of our continued efforts to keep invasives under control and allow our native ecosystem to thrive, creating healthier and more vibrant trails for everyone.
🗓️ Work Days:
• Day 1: Sunday, Nov 1st | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Lunch at noon)
• Day 2: Sunday, Nov 15th | Time TBD
⚠️ Trail Info & Closures:
During these workdays, certain paths in the southeast corner will be closed for safety. Signs will be posted, so please plan your hikes accordingly and respect the restoration work in progress.

🌕 ONE WEEK TO GO!

The 14th Annual Full Moon Trail Run is just 7 days away! Next Saturday, September 26, we’ll be heading into Lewis Park & Trails for an evening on the trails under the full moon.

Whether you’re running the approximately 3-mile route or taking the family-friendly approximately 1-mile walk, come ready for a fun night outdoors. Tiki torches, flashlights, prairie, wooded trails, and a full moon make this one of Springfield’s most unique local events.

Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m.
Run starts at 7:00 p.m.
Walk begins approximately 5 minutes after the run
Rain or shine

Know Before You Go: Full Moon Trail Run Trail Routes

Whether you’re running or walking, we’ve got a route for you.
~3-Mile Run | 7:00 p.m.

The run takes you through a mix of prairie and wooded trails. The route is marked and lightly technical, so keep an eye out for roots, ruts, and a few logs along the way!

~1-Mile Family-Friendly Walk | Approximately 7:05 p.m.
This loop is mostly prairie with a small section through the woods. It’s a great option for families and those looking for a shorter trail experience.

A few trail tips:
• Routes are clearly marked.
• Expect natural, lightly technical terrain.
• Watch your footing for roots, ruts, and logs.
• Bring your sense of adventure — and enjoy the trails under the full moon!
