Inside Level 3A: Developing Independent Kickers

Level 3A is where swimmers start turning independence into movement! Swimmers build strong body position, streamline, and independent kicking on both their front and back.

Teagan began working at Kids First Swim School in February 2026. She learned to swim at her local pool around the age of three and participated in summer swim from first through seventh grade. She continues to swim for fun and enjoys staying active in the water. Teagan is a student at West Springfield High School and plans to attend college to study physical therapy. Her favorite part of teaching is watching children grow and gain confidence as they learn new skills. She is excited to be part of the Kids First team and to work with all of our families. She is certified to teach our levels 1-5.

Our October tree is ready for some BOO-tiful achievements!

This month, we’re asking our swimmers:

“Something I’m proud of is…”

Whether it’s mastering a new swim skill, overcoming a fear, or accomplishing something special outside the pool, we want to celebrate it!

Look for our Tree of Boo-tiful Achievements the next time you’re at Kids First and add yours to the tree.

We can’t wait to watch it fill up all October long!

Level 2 is where water confidence begins turning into water independence.

Our swimmers work on independent front and back floats, proper head and body position, rhythmic breathing, and beginning kicking skills—all while learning how to move safely and confidently in the water.

One of the most important skills at this level is the back float. More than just a swimming skill, floating on the back is an essential water-safety skill. It teaches swimmers how to relax, keep their face above the water, breathe, and maintain a safe position if they become tired or need help.

In Level 2, we’re not just preparing swimmers for the next level. We’re building skills that can help them stay safer in the water.

It isn’t just what we teach. It’s how much we care about the kids we’re teaching.

At Kids First Swim School Springfield, “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care” isn’t simply a motto on the wall. It’s something our team has built this school around.

For us, teaching a child to swim means meeting them where they are—celebrating the little victories, helping them work through the hard moments, building their confidence, and making sure they know there’s someone in their corner.

Over the next few months, we’re going to introduce you to some of the people who make our school what it is and share what CARE looks like through their eyes.

Because skills matter.
