RIDING BIKES ON SIDEWALKS? YES.
RIDING BIKES ON THE STREETS? ALSO YES.
By city ordinance, riding bikes on sidewalks is PERFECTLY LEGAL as long as:
> You are NOT downtown or on c-street.
> You are slowing down for pedestrians and yielding to them.
> You are announcing yourself when passing walkers by calling out or using your bike's bell.
Also: If you approach a person with a white cane or service dog on the sidewalk, please dismount and push your bike to be courteous!
Riding on sidewalks is what we recommend to families that ride with children and those who do not feel ready for dealing with traffic.
However, BICYCLISTS have EVERY RIGHT to be ON THE ROAD. And there are many safety reasons for them to use the road.
Please SHARE THE ROAD!
