EXPECTATIONS.

My dogs are nearly infallible on dead and mortally wounded deer, and will push a blood trail to keep a deer bleeding until we catch up with it. The last deer that was left in the woods was 3 years ago, and that track was 100% contaminated by the hunter and his friends.

What we can't do, is recover deer where no vitals were hit! When no vitals are hit, don't blame the tracker or the dog. On most recoveries the huntet is elated, and exclaims that he never would have found the deer without the dog!

Also, one lung hits, where no other organs are hit, are generally NOT recoverable with on lead tracking.

We have recovered deer on 3 mile tracks and have found deer that drones didn't find. Trust the dog to determine if the deer is dead or still alive on the day it was tracked.

BUCK FEVER.

We tracked a mile and a half, and were shocked! This was thought to be the Big Target Buck! What we recovered was a small, gut shot 1.5 year old. Obviously, the hunter's excitement distorted reality! Buck fever is real, and it does cause good hunters to shake so bad that they miss, or shoot the wrong deer.

In this case, why did the buck go a mile and a half?

This is a tracking shoe that is used to train tracking dogs. The hoof in the shoe is obviously from a dead deer that had declining health. By tracking the declining health signal, a dog distinguishes your wounded deer, from all the other deer in the area.

PURE JOY!

About a year ago, this boy and his family came to buy a tracking dog. The little boy burst through the house, straight to the puppy pen and gathered the entire litter.
