GREAT night last night, y’all!! Lots of great players, great matches, and more than a few surprises! Among the surprises: TT maniac, Nick Larson, drove up from Little Rock again, and gave Tej all he wanted in a very entertaining match. But then he turned around and got skunked by Hoang - who had gotten his RH game out of mothballs in a most impressive debut. Speaking of impressive debuts, DJ looked fantastic last night against Nick in a 5-game comeback win, as elements of his fine game started coming back to him. DJ has a beautiful game, with power to spare, and a great natural backhand. But DJ, in turn, was beaten convincingly by Achim, who also looked in top form last night - not too shabby for an old guy! It gives hope to guys like me and Stan, that you really can improve on the wrong side of 60! Speaking of which, me and (mostly) right-handed Hoang took a doubles squeaker from Tam and and Stan, 16-14 in the 5th - better luck next time, losers 😄! Lastly, and sadly, Ninka, Lincoln, and Liam dropped by to say goodbye, on their way back to Taiwan. It was a bittersweet parting, that they softened with apples, bananas, tangelos, and cookies (seriously, is there anything that cookies don’t make better??). Lincoln made us a going away card that was so sweet! We’ll miss those boys, but it’s tempered by the knowledge that they’ll be butt-kickers when they get back next year, after all the fine coaching they’ll receive over there 😳😁🏓
