🥋 Friday Fun Fact!

Did you know that when we first opened our doors in February 1999, we weren’t called Ultimate Leadership Martial Arts?

Our original name was Michael Mershad’s TaeKwonDo Plus!

If you remember the ’90s, you probably remember the trend of small businesses adding “Plus” to the end of their names. In fact, when we opened in the Springboro Pointe Shopping Center, we shared the plaza with both Party Plus and Blinds Plus!

Apparently, Springboro Pointe had a whole lot of “Plus” happening back then. 😂

The name may have changed, but our mission has remained the same: helping students and families become stronger, more confident leaders—one class at a time.

Does anyone remember our original name or training with us back in those early days?

👉Team sports may not be your kid's "thing" AND THAT'S OK!!!

When I was a child, my parents tried to find my “thing”… They had me try baseball, basketball, soccer, etc.… but it was martial arts that really captured me! 36 years later, I truly believe that martial arts training offers unique benefits to kids that team sports simply cannot match.

Here are 5 areas that I have observed this:
1. Individual Focus: Martial arts training is primarily focused on individual development, allowing children to progress at their own pace and achieve their own personal goals. In contrast, team sports often prioritize team success over individual growth, which can be discouraging for children who may feel like they're not making progress or contributing to the team.

2. Discipline and Self-Control: Martial arts training emphasizes discipline and self-control, which are essential life skills that can benefit children in all areas of their lives. Through martial arts training, kids learn to control their impulses, manage their emotions, and develop a strong sense of self-discipline, all of which can help them succeed in school and beyond.

3. Practical Self-Defense Skills: Martial arts training teaches children how to defend themselves in real-world situations, which can help them feel more confident and secure in their daily lives. While team sports can offer physical benefits, they don't typically teach practical self-defense skills.

4. Non-Competitive Environment: Martial arts training is not focused on winning or losing, but rather on individual progress and growth. This creates a non-competitive environment where children can learn and develop without the pressure of competition or the fear of failure.

5. Respect and Humility: Martial arts training emphasizes respect and humility, teaching children to respect themselves, their instructors, and their peers. Through martial arts training, kids learn the importance of humility, discipline, and hard work, all of which are essential qualities for success in life.

There’s absolutely nothing inherently wrong with team sports… But many children are playing sports and not enjoying it… When they could be learning some thing that they can take with them for the rest of their life!

A huge thank-you to Officer Morgan for visiting our campers and leading them through an exciting crime-solving mystery! The kids gathered clues, put their detective skills to work, and had an absolute blast cracking the case together.
One of the things that makes Springboro Summer Camps so special is the incredible field trips and guests that come directly to us. Our campers get to learn, explore, laugh, and experience something new—all without leaving camp!
