One of the most rewarding parts about being a jiu jitsu coach is remembering what a kid was like the first day they walked into the gym and seeing where they are now.

Over the years, we’ve watched hundreds of kids go from shy and unsure to confident martial artists. It’s bittersweet watching them grow, but so rewarding to wrap that next belt around their waist.

Tonight was a special one. Congrats to all!!

Before Torres Jiu Jitsu had a name, a building, or students walking through the doors, there were a lot of long days that included working full-time, training, teaching, competing, going to school, coming home late, and getting up to do it all over again.

Somewhere in the middle of all of that, we started building something of our own.

Eventually, Mike made the decision to leave the security of a “safe” job and take a chance on opening an academy.

It was a risk. It was scary. And it changed our lives!
