As basketball season approaches, I get many parents asking for a guide to try outs, what to emphasize and how to fully prepare. Below is what is the recommendation for ANY player, be they an all state candidate or just a kid trying to make a team. GOOD LUCK THIS YEAR!! 616 402-1600
1: Mindset Training. Players must be prepared for adversity, tough outcomes, better players, bad breaks. If they are not, they have little or no chance for contribution. Get a Mindset session here, either private with Coach McGannon or in a group setting (Ferrysburg and Rockford) https://basicssports.com/mindset-calendar/
2. Conditioning. If a player can not get up and down, up and down, up and down the court, they literally have NO chance of making it. Basics training is the best conditioning anywhere because kids almost never sit. That's the beauty of limiting enrollment. Run, run, run, run, run, run and run some more.
3. Skill Development. the best players in the world emphasize skill development ALL the time. It is amazing to me how many kids and programs confuse competition with competitive growth. They are barely related. Skill development is about REPETITION, REPETITION, test out the skill in scrimmaging and then more REPETITION. This is our pre-season model. https://basicssports.com/pre-season/
We hope to see you soon!! Coach McGannon
