Where is Spring Lake? They know this season!

EAST LANSING – Ella Andree and Clara Saunders started recording a three-part Tik Tok on the opening day of Spring Lake’s girls soccer season, knowing that in order to film Parts 2 and 3 they would need to advance to, and win, the MHSAA Division 2 Final. On Saturday, they finished the video.

Girls Varsity Soccer Coach, Becky May, received this honor after winning last Spring's Division II State Championship!

After being an All-State player herself at Grand Haven High School, where she still holds the scoring record, Becky went on to MSU to become an All-American- where she has now brought two teams the last four years to the finals. One runner up in 2021, and one State Champion 2024. In addition she coached Tri Cities Strikers and Lake Shore for approximately 6 years making lasting relationships with athletes and families that still endure.

Professionally, Becky has been teaching and writing books on Christianity for 25 years. During that time, she also worked as the Director of Women’s Ministry for Relational Concepts. She earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies Dallas Theological Seminary. We could not be more proud having her as a mentor to all of our young athletes!

We would be remiss if we did not take the time to recognize the M-Live Coach of the Year Mrs. Becky May and thank her for the incredible job she has done building the Women’s Soccer Program here at Spring Lake High School. During Coach Becky’s tenure she has brought home a State Finalist Trophy and a State Championship trophy helping to build Spring Lake as one of the premiere soccer programs in the State.

Spring Lake girls soccer program has compiled a 119-17-13 overall record under the guidance of head coach Becky May in the past eight years and capped off the 2024 season with a thrilling 1-0 win over Bloomfield Hills Marian to earn the program’s first-ever state championship.

The Lakers have won a district championship every season under May (2020 season was canceled), and have at least reached the regional championship game in each occurrence. This season, May put together a difficult non-conference schedule to prepare her players for a potential run at a state title and with the help of assistant coaches Rachel Ho**er and Taylor Barthels, the Lakers finished 17-2-5 and were ranked the No. 1 team in the Division 2 field for the majority of the season.

We thank Coach May and all of the Lakers and feeder programs that have contributed to these amazing successes. Congratulations Coach May!
