Yesterday was Jolie's last day at the barn during her summer break from college. She spent her break helping me out and continuing her equine education. I started her at the age of eleven. She continued her lessons til last year as she went off to school.

She was great help for me and I will truly miss her! She brightened my day and everyone she met! 😊

She rode Spirit in her last few years of lessons. He taught her a great deal! Yesterday we decided to play with some obstacles. He hadn't done obstacles in quite a few years...we worked on a lot of things yesterday while playing with the obstacle!

I love the look on her face as well as the look on Spirit's face!! This photo tells everyone how well things went for both Jolie and Spirit!!

She plans on coming back in November!😊🐴

Here is Winnie today back in the wash rack. I was planning on working with her one last time to finish up with her being totally content with the wash rack..but I wasn't planning on it being today! This afternoon it was brought to my attention that she wasn't feeling well. I quickly went to check on her. Yes, she wasn't feeling well. She had been down. She was up when I saw her and it appeared she was either trying to colic or was over heated. I took her out of her stall and headed over to the wash rack. We stood in the aisle for a few minutes and she was just standing there. She followed me in to the wash rack. I sponged her off a few different times. She didn't appeared stress. I then went to hosing her off. She was feeling much better. She even enjoyed drinking out of the hose!!

I walked her up and down the barn aisle several times. She was feeling fine. Took her back to her stall. She went right over, with great interest, to her grain bin and finished her evening grain. She, then, took a big drink of water very slowly! Back at her hay again! Checked on her several times. She never laid down in a couple hours. She was happy again!

I'm just glad I started working with her last week on the wash rack. I always like to have horses prepared for wash racks, loading into trailers and so on. When a horse is stressed by not feeling well or injury and etc., it is not the best of times to start such a project! 😊🐴

Day 2 of Winnie in wash rack...
She walked in great! I started with sponge and water to see how she felt about that. I do this process way before I get the hose out. I want to see how any horse feels about the feel of water and hearing water hit the concrete. She had slight thoughts of leaving the wash rack so it didn't take much help to ask her to stay. I moved on to getting the hose out and touch her with the hose on her legs as sometimes the hose rubs against their legs. I don't want the horse to have any surprises! I, then, turned the water on. I ran water starting down on the lower leg and moved up the leg. She was feeling pretty good about it. I was able to move up to shoulders. It was a great second day for her. She wasn't too thrilled with me sponging her face so worked off and on with that process til she was able to feel more content with it. The pics from yesterday show a really content horse..the pics today show a little concern with the added water and etc. I would like her to be 100% content...no concern in her at all! Hopefully I will get one more session with her.

"All too often, exercises are thought to be the cure for many problems with horses. But exercises typically address the physical. I learned years ago that the mechanical doings of things with horses are the darlings of the how-to-press because they are so one, two, three. Addressing the horse's mind... well, that's a whole different universe traveling in a different orbit from that of the exercise drillsters. Only when a person deliberately or accidentally gets a horse's thought engaged and obtains the horse's focus does an exercise prove truly helpful and produce willingness in a horse."

"The horse is a mirror. It goes deep into the body. When I see your horse, I see you, too. It shows me everything you are, everything about the horse. I try to face life for what it is. There's hearts ache, but it's a good thing. I'm trying to save the horse's life, and your life, too. The human is so good at war. He knows how to fight. But making peace, boy, that's the hardest thing for a human. But once you start giving, you won't believe how much you get back."

An opportunity came up this afternoon with a horse that couldn't be caught to come back into the barn. It allowed me to show a student how to help a horse to want to be caught...from the horse's point of view! The horse was very concerned every time I tried to approach her..she knew all the human tricks, such as treats, grain and etc., and was clearly not interested in any of them...it was a great success to help her want to be caught! πŸ˜ƒ

Jolie has been with me since she was about 11 years old..well, today was her last lesson as she is heading off to college! She has made so much progress, not only in her horsemanship, but with life skills. She came to me because of her lack of confidence...she has grown so much! I wish her the best but I will miss her a lot!
