Tour in the season you want to get married in.

It sounds obvious and almost nobody does it. Most couples visit in February and try to picture October, which is a lot to ask of a room and a lawn on a grey afternoon.

Right now the light is doing what it does in autumn, the water is darker, and the far bank is starting to turn. If autumn is what you want, these are the weeks to come and stand in it.

A host who actually enjoys their own party. That's the whole job.

Someone else watches the clock, moves the chairs, keeps the glasses full, and quietly sorts out the thing that went sideways at 6:40 p.m. that you never hear about. You stay out on the lawn with a drink, the people you invited, and the lake.

Today is a day off for a lot of people, which makes it the right day to say it: an event can be a day off too, for whoever is hosting it.

Most people don't know there's a beach.

Fawn Lake has one. It isn't open to the public, but couples marrying here can use it for photographs, which means sand, open water and low evening light without anyone getting into a car.

It's a completely different backdrop from the lawn. Worth building fifteen minutes into the timeline for.

The morning is the part that's least planned for.

Everyone thinks about the ceremony and the reception. Then the day arrives, most of the party is getting ready in a hotel somewhere else, and someone has to drive the dress.

There are two dressing suites here. One is bright, with real mirrors and a long counter for hair and makeup. The other is larger and moodier, more traditional. Both fit the whole party at once.

You get ready where the day is actually happening. Nobody is in a car when they should be with their people.

A note for whoever in your office has been handed the holiday party.

It is usually one person. Often it is not in their job description. And the brief is always the same: somewhere that feels like an occasion, that seats everyone, that people can actually get to, and that will not become a logistics problem in the last week of a busy quarter.

The Cove was built for events, so most of that is already solved. The ballroom seats up to 200. It is modern and neutral, which means it takes your branding, your AV and your seating plan without a fight. The kitchen is on site, so the menu is a conversation rather than a negotiation with a third party. Parking is on site and guests walk straight in. And the water is right there, which does more for a December evening than any amount of decorating.

We have hosted awards dinners, association gatherings, fundraisers and galas, and tournaments on the Arnold Palmer course that finish with a proper dinner.

The practical note: most December bookings are settled before Halloween. If your party is going to happen, this is the comfortable time to arrange it rather than the frantic one.

The groomsmen need something to do on Saturday morning.

There's an 18-hole Arnold Palmer course on the property. If they play, it's worth asking what we can put together for the morning of, or the day before, so nobody is pacing a hotel lobby waiting for the ceremony.

It also gives the guests who don't want a spa afternoon somewhere to be.

Tables, chairs, linens, centerpieces. That's four calls you don't have to make.

Every event here starts with the essentials already handled, and food and beverage in-house rather than brought in. The ballroom is neutral by design, so most of what you'd otherwise spend transforming a room, you don't.

What that actually buys you is fewer decisions. You're not starting from zero, and you're not managing five vendors who have never worked together.
