Planting potatoes with a little help from my friends. Hoping to have baby reds by the 4th of July for you at the farm stand. You know what goes good with potatoes? It’s pork! It was a sad day on Tuesday at the farm. A load of pigs went to the butcher. I know it’s the lifecycle of animals on the farm but it’s always a little sad. They were all well taken care of and petted as we loaded them. Thank you to those who ordered a half or whole. I still have four that could go to the butcher if anyone is interested. We are also taking orders for our next batch that will be ready late summer.

I was in the pig business for the first time when I was twelve. My brother and I had three sows. Named Tom,Tim,and outta (outta good names for pigs). They each had a litter and we had built a new woven wire fence for them to live in. All the little ones started getting out and eating the potatoes in my mom’s garden. My mom never got upset but she came out there one day and they were all in her garden eating potatoes. She said the pigs are going. Do you know what would happen if they got across the road onto the golf course. She didn’t mention her potatoes once but our pig enterprise was short lived. If you’re interested in a half or whole hog. Message me and I’ll explain our program. As always. Know where your food comes from.

I’ve got a lot of memories growing up on Boulderlane farms. One of them was in weather like we are having now. Bitter cold and one of our cows had a calf. She was in the shed but probably colder in there than outside. The cow was a terrible mother. She wouldn’t let the calf nurse unless we sedated her with a drug called rompun. So naturally that’s the name you give to the calf. Rompun did great. Half of his ears froze off but it didn’t bother him. My brother took that steer to the very first livestock show and sale at the Washburn County Fair. He was given a bad time because Rompun only had half of his ears. He did well on the sale though. Remember only 23 weeks until the Fourth of July. We will have non GMO potatoes, onions, sweet corn and more for you at that time. As always. Know where your food comes from.

An update on our March 31st butcher date for our pigs. I’ve only got two left for that date so message me if you’re interested. If you’ve ever thought about buying a half or whole hog and have questions I’d be happy to step you through it.

These guys are still looking to be bought by you for your freezer. It’s sad to me because they greet me night and morning, let me scratch their ears, and rub their tummies. I also understand the cycle of life on the farm. I take the best care of them while they are with me. Message me if you would like to buy a half or whole hog and I’ll let you know how it works. As always. Know where your food comes from.

Our philosophy on animal care hasn’t changed in 40 plus years but my philosophy on crops has. I believed everything I was being told about crop production. Plow, plant, spray , repeat until a couple of years ago I really started to look into what all the chemicals are doing to the land and eventually ending up in our food supply. How one chemical in particular has been linked to various cancers and Parkinson’s disease. This chemical company says we can’t feed the world population without it. I totally disagree and we are now growing all of our produce Non GMO. You will be able to purchase starting again this spring. You can look forward to that as we look forward to it also. Again all of our animals are raised with love and care and we still have half and whole hogs for sale. Ready the end of March. As always. Know where your food comes from.

We have always treated our animals with care with the philosophy that if we take good care of them they will take good care of us. I hold true to that philosophy today. I feel bad when something gets sick, we do our best to get them feeling better again. I feel really bad when something dies but I understand that it sometimes happens. And I feel really bad when we take something to get butchered but understand that is the life cycle of a farm animal. We take the best care of them while they are in our hands. We are proud to say that we raised that animal. We still have some half and whole hogs for sale. As always. Know where your food comes from

Boulderlane Farms was started in 1974 when my folks bought the farm in part to give my brother and I a good work ethic and in part to keep us out of trouble. It accomplished both. We cut wood, baled hay, fed cows, built fence, all the things that go along with farming. If we got our work done we were allowed to walk across the road and play a round of golf. I fell in love with agriculture and my brother became a commercial airline pilot for a major carrier.
Everything on the farm was done conventional. Plow, disc, plant, spray. Was it the right way? It was the way everyone was doing it at that time. Was it good for us? Was it good for the land? I thought so. At least for 42 years.

Over the next week or so I’ll give you some background on Boulderlane Farms and why we have decided to grow all non GMO crops and market directly to you the consumer. We feel it’s better for you the consumer. Us the producers and our land and environment as a whole. Remember we still have some whole and half hogs for sale that will be processed the end of March. If you’re interested please let us know so we can reserve one for you. As always. Know where your food comes from.

Kind of an interesting fact I came across this week. Only 6% of American farms sell direct to consumers. Find a farmer you can get to know and trust and enjoy fresher foods for your family. As always. Know where your food comes from.

I just wanted to update our 2026 pricing. We are trying to make as good a deal for you on some great meat. Pricing for a whole hog is now $2.75/pound hanging weight. Pricing on a half of a hog is $2.90/pound hanging weight. Butcher price is still about the same. Place an order as they will be butchered the end of March. As always.
