The 509 Classic returns to Spokane on December 22, 2026, as Washington State and Eastern Washington renew their men's basketball rivalry at Numerica Veterans Arena in year two of the three-year series.

College basketball returns to downtown Spokane as Washington State and Eastern Washington face off in the 2026 509 Classic at Numerica Veterans Arena on December 22. Tickets and event details coming soon.

The 509 Classic is back on December 22, 2026, as EWU Men's Basketball and Washington State Men's Basketball meet once again at Numerica Veterans Arena for another chapter in one of the Inland Northwest’s biggest college basketball matchups.

More than a game - it’s a celebration of basketball, community, and regional pride.

The 509 region recently lost a basketball legend and the father of Eastern Washington University head men’s basketball coach Dan Monson.

A native of Coeur d’Alene, Don Monson devoted his life to the game, coaching in Cheney, Pasco, and Moscow before spending his later years in Spokane. He passed away recently at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy that shaped generations of players, coaches, and families across the 509.

In his honor, the 509 Classic and Numerica Credit Union are establishing the Don Monson Scholarship Fund, donating $5,000 to the Hooptown Youth League. This gift will help ensure underserved youth across our region have the opportunity to participate in basketball at no cost to them or their families.

His influence lives on.
