There’s a reason I never built these to sell. WAYYYY too time consuming.

Well, 11 years after building my last one, I decided to build one for myself, and it hasn’t disappointed. It’s taking twice as long and coming out sh*tty.

No surprise. I’m older and slower.

I also don’t have all the u-bends I need, so I’m half-assing the build by using up scraps of tubing rather than ordering more u-bends.

Anyway, this is made from 1-5/8” tubing, so it’s about 19% more tubing volume than a regular Sprint manifold. Better for higher flow engines or bigger displacement engines.

Well, now I’m bummed out. My go-to zinc plating shop has stopped doing automotive parts due to them being too time-consuming and labor intensive to prep.

The technician I spoke to said it was mostly due to the condition of the parts they normally receive….namely stuff covered in grease, rust, paint, etc. This requires a lot of time to get prepped for the plating process.

When I showed them my batch of parts I wanted plated, they declined to make any exceptions, BUT they were kind enough to comment that my parts were generally “ready to plate” with nothing more than an acid etch and rinsing. Sadly, this doesn’t do me any good right now!

Oh well, I guess I’m on the lookout for a new zinc plater now.

Well, as usual my stuff gets put on the back burner. I didn’t get my spindles, steering arms, and calipers done. Not even close.

However, I need to drop off plenty of other items and don’t want to hold them up from being plated and/or powdercoated. So I’ll get my own stuff done over the next few weeks, and when the first batch of parts gets picked up, I’ll drop off the new batch.

Another part cleaned up, ready for yellow zinc plating. This was a last minute addition to my parts list.

It’s a spare torque tube housing for a 3.18 rear axle I will be setting up for my 1972 Ascona wagon.

These three intakes are complete and ready to be powdercoated, after which the flanges will be trued up.

I’ll be prepping steering arms, spindles, brake calipers, and front hubs.

I’m debating having them shot-peened prior to plating, but this is for a street car, so probably not.
