Getting started...

One of the first exercises we often teach at Fitness to Function LLC is the sit-to-stand—a basic squat. It may look simple, but don't let that fool you!

💪 This movement helps improve:
✅ Leg strength
✅ Balance and stability
✅ Coordination
✅ Confidence with everyday activities
✅ Independence as we age

Whether you're starting your fitness journey for the first time or returning after a break, we focus on building a strong foundation first.

🪑 In this video, you'll see how we modify the sit-to-stand to make the movement more accessible while helping clients learn proper squat mechanics in a safe and controlled way.
We also pay close attention to:

✔️ Knee alignment
✔️ Posture and spinal position
✔️ Weight distribution through the feet
✔️ Controlled movement patterns

At Fitness to Function LLC, we believe the goal isn't perfection—it's progress. 🌟

Every repetition is a step toward moving better, feeling stronger, and aging with confidence.

👇 We'd love to hear from you!

Can you do 10 sit-to-stands from a chair today without using your hands to help you up?

Let us know in the comments! ⬇️

❤️ Better yet, come see us for a fitness assessment and try it for yourself. We'd be honored to help you get started and support you every step of the way.

Let's get stronger together! 💪✨

💡 A recent realization...

My recent DEXA scan results reminded me of something important:

Knowing what to do and actually doing it are two very different things.

🏋️‍♀️ I spend my days helping people build strength to stay active as they age. I know the research and the benefits of consistent strength training.

And yet, sometimes getting started is still the hardest part for me.

❤️ That realization gives me an even deeper appreciation for the challenges so many people face when it comes to exercise.

Sometimes it's a lack of knowledge.
🤯 Sometimes it's information overload.
📅 Sometimes life simply gets in the way.

Making a change is often harder than it looks.

What I keep coming back to is this:

✨ Healthy aging begins with getting started. The rest comes later.**

None of us have to do it perfectly. We just have to begin with what works for us.

🪑 Later this week, I'll share a simple sit-to-stand exercise—one of the most fundamental movements we do every day and a great example of where we often begin with new clients.

💪 Let's get started together!

💪 Strength training isn't just about building muscle—it's about maintaining independence.

📃Research shows adults can lose 3–5% of their muscle mass per decade as they age if they don't actively work to maintain it.

That's why we train.

Not for perfect workouts.
Not for perfect bodies.

For real life.

💬 Member: "The results have come so quickly. I feel so much stronger in such a short period of time! Thank you, Dianne and Lynn!"

🥇And that's a goal worth working toward.

💪 Coming clean...

I know what to do, and I still don't always do it.

🥾 I've been drawn to endurance activities my entire life. Give me a challenging hike, kayak trip, bike ride, or long walk and I'm happy.

🦴 My recent bone density scan is a reminder that I need to add more strength training to my weekly routine. I already strength train regularly, but I need to make it a bigger part of my routine.

📚 I teach this stuff every day. I know the research, the benefits, and how often I should be doing it.

😆 But strength training often feels more like a chore than something I'm excited to do. It reminds me a little of physical therapy.

Getting started is the hardest part.

🏋️ Once I get going, I enjoy it. I know I'm building strength and challenging my bones in ways that support healthy aging.

❤️ This gives me a deeper appreciation for people who know they want to improve their health but struggle to make it happen. Whether it's lack of knowledge, too much information, an injury, or simply life getting in the way.

What I keep coming back to is this:

✨ Healthy aging begins with "getting started."

The rest comes later.

🎯 My focus right now is consistency. Moving my strength training from once a week to a more regular part of my routine and adding a little extra strength work at home.

😄 A couple of dumbbells have already found their way into my hallway.

I'll keep you posted.

What type of exercise do you enjoy most?

And what type do you keep putting off?

💪 Fitness goals change as we move through different stages of life.

When we’re younger, the focus is often:

🏋️ Lift heavier
🏃 Move faster
🔥 Push harder
🏆 Improve performance

But for many older adults, success starts to look a little different.

It becomes about:

✅ Staying strong enough to travel
✅ Getting up and down off the floor with confidence
✅ Carrying groceries without struggle
✅ Improving balance and stability
✅ Playing with grandkids
✅ Maintaining independence in everyday life

And honestly… we still want to get stronger, move faster, improve endurance, and feel powerful too! 💪✨

The training may look different than it did at 30, but progress, challenge, and improvement still matter. We can continue building strength, improving function, and enhancing quality of life well into our 60s, 70s, and beyond. 🙌

At Fitness to Function, LLC, we believe fitness should support real life—helping people stay active, capable, strong, and confident for the things that matter most. ❤️

🌟 Strong for life. Independent for life. 🌟

Strong enough for everyday life. 💛
That’s the goal.

✔️ Carry the groceries
✔️ Get up off the floor
✔️ Travel
✔️ Keep moving
✔️ Stay independent

Fitness looks different in every season of life — and that’s okay.
