This year we will be adding two new coaches to our little kids program. I will be posting introductions for everyone as season approaches. I'd like to introduce Matt Schuver as our 3-8th grade club coach for the year. I wrestled with Matt at Buena Vista during the early 2000s. Our teams at that time were pretty stacked & we had placed as a team in the top 10/15 in the nation during those years. I was surprised to see Matt again last year in practices & I am excited to have him involved with our young kids program. He is a quality wrestler with a lot of experience & a great attitude that aligns with my philosophy on wrestling. - Coach Doebel

3rd-8th Grade

Matt Schuver

I started wrestling in 8th grade at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and finished my last two years there wrestling at 171 pounds. I was a two time state qualifier in high school. From there I moved on to Buena Vista University where I wrestled at 174 pounds.

I don’t have a lot of coaching experience but enjoyed helping kids throughout last year's wrestling season with the Spencer Wrestling Club.

I’ve always thought of wrestling as the toughest sport anyone can participate in and success comes through how much hard work you put into the sport.

Of course all the medals and championships through my years of wrestling are great but developing the mindset throughout life to go the extra mile and put in extra effort in everything is what I am most proud of.

I’ve coached my son through different sports over the years and have enjoyed getting to know his friends and helping these kids learn the sport of wrestling. I look forward to helping them through the season learn the hard work and discipline that is required to become a successful wrestler.

****SPENCER GIRLS GRADES 3-8****Head girls wrestling coach Dave Storm is putting together a program for 3-8 grade girls club. From match preparation to body movement & style guys & girls learn & function differently. This is a great chance for our local girls to learn from someone whos competed successfully at the highest level of high school womens wrestling. I believe Shaylee has the skill & insight to model & lead our girls to that next level. Spencer Wrestling Club will support our girls in offering our Monday practices at no charge to any girl signed & paid with Spencer Girls Wrestling Club. The year is fast approaching and we are excited to see you and your wrestlers at the parent/wrestler meeting on Oct. 30th at 6pm in the High School Lunch Room. I'm excited to have 2 new coaches for our kids and I will be posting introduction pieces for each of them as the season nears. To anyone looking for a wrestling opportunity this coming Saturday. Eli Alger, of the music group Faster Horses, has teamed up with Adam Gress , representing Aggressive wrestling academy, to bring the area a free wrestling clinic featuring Royce Alger & Tom Brands.
Please take the time to have your kids learn from Legendary Hawkeyes & stick around for the concert later that night. All donations & money raised go back to aid Spencer flood damage victims.
