I created this page for a college class 4 or 5 years ago. I didn’t delete it after the class, and I’ve long thought about it. But people keep checking in and interacting with it. I found a hat near the top a couple years ago, and used this page to successfully reunite it with the owner.
I’m torn whether I should delete this page, I haven’t given it any attention in a long time. I don’t know that I will in the near or distant future. But it gives people a venue to check in and potentially interact with each other and the community at large. Groups have hosted events using the page.
It doesn’t cost me anything or any work to keep it going, but I feel I’ve dealt a disservice by my negligence of it.
Thoughts?

Freeman Tilden's Principles of Interpretation: "Interpretation should aim to present a whole rather than a part, and must address itself to the whole man rather than any phase."
The beauty of Lookout Mountain is that it is a whole mountain with many parts. Throughout contests for its "proper" usage, all parties, in essence, the "whole community" has had benefits from this mountain. People of differing motivations have been able to partake in its splendor. Developers have been able to use one side, there are communications assets on top of the mountain, others are able to recreate and explore natures beauties.

Freeman Tilden's Principles of Interpretation: "The chief aim of Interpretation is not instruction, but provocation."
Teaching about the mountains isn't enough. Especially on a mountain such as Lookout Mountain, where usage has been contested over the years, getting people on one side or the other has been challenge enough. Mountain bikers have taken up one side of the issue, developers another, and nature appreciators yet another. The key is to provoke others to get involved and take a stand, to work together for a mutual benefit.

Freeman Tilden's Principles of Interpretation: "Interpretation is an art, which combines many arts, whether the materials presented are scientific, historical or architectural. Any art is in some degree teachable."
Even being a simple hill just off the interstate, there is a certain beauty about Lookout Mountain. From a geological perspective, the interplay of the elements over the ages past have created a beautiful masterpiece. One can see the many layers of depth this world has created. Our exploration of this hill takes through millions of years of creation and erosion and left us with what we see today. Many other types of scientists and lay people can appreciate this.

Freeman Tilden's Principles of Interpretation: "Any interpretation that does not somehow relate what is being displayed or described to something within the personality or experience of the visitor will be sterile."
Visitors to Lookout Mountain can find many things. On these trails; one can find themselves, or find an outlet when things get too busy in town or in life, or to find a workout. Parents can take their children to find new plants or animals, teachers can take their students to talk about dendrology, and people can take their pets to find a way to run off energy.
