Spearfish Cross Country opened the season with strong performances at the Douglas Early Bird Meet, led by top-five finishes from Mason Gill, Roman Jeffery and Taisley Tetrault.

🎓 SENIOR SPOTLIGHT | BREVIN KOEHLER 🏃‍♂️

Today we’re celebrating senior Brevin Koehler, son of Matt and Amber Koehler!

Brevin has been running as a Spearfish Spartan for the past seven years, and throughout that time he has been an important part of our boys squad. His favorite course to race is Huron, but if he could choose a dream location to run someday, he’d head straight to Yosemite National Park.

His go-to pre-race meal? Oatmeal and black coffee — simple and dependable!

One of Brevin’s favorite parts of cross country has been being part of this boys squad. When asked who he can always count on to make him laugh, his answer was Michael! 😂

After graduation, Brevin plans to attend Mitchell Tech to study electrical. He hopes running will continue to be part of his life just for the enjoyment of it.

And if you can’t find Brevin out logging miles, you might want to check the kitchen… apparently Brev can bake! 🧁

Brevin, good luck during your senior season! We’re thankful for the miles, laughs, memories, and everything you’ve brought to Spartan Cross Country over the past seven years.

🍭 SWEET PERFORMANCES OF THE WEEK

This season, our Spartan Cross Country coaching staff decided we wanted to recognize some of the “sweet” performances of the week from our squad!

This week, we’re recognizing Taisley and Roman for their performances at the Douglas Invite! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

🤍 Taisley, just an 8th grader, showed she is more than ready to take on the 5K distance! She led our Spartan girls with a 5th-place overall finish, crossing the line in an impressive 21:44.

🤍 Roman also had a strong day, finishing 5th overall in a time of 17:36. His performance showed that all the work he put in over the summer is paying off, and he is ready for a great season ahead.

We are excited to see what these two accomplish this season!

Thank you to everyone who came out this summer and supported our cross country team through the Youth Running Series! We love spending our Thursday evenings with our future Spartans, and it’s always a highlight of the summer.

Running is such a special part of the Spearfish community, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to share our love of the sport with this amazing group of young runners. Thank you to all the families and athletes who made this summer a success.

We can’t wait to see everyone out on the course this season. Thank you for supporting Spartan Cross Country! ❤️🤍
