I may still be exhausted, but I’m back in my happy place assembling a ride truck. It’s starting to look like a truck again. You just can’t beat that new truck feel. Every part, piece and bolt is brand new. This is going to be one of, if not the nicest ride truck running this year, if I do say so myself. I’m pretty proud of how it’s turning out.

We’re back from the show. I got in around 2:30 am and collapsed. Sunday is going to be a slow day. Breakfast at a little place called The Western Egg, then unload trucks, wash them and get them inside, then round out my day doing laundry. Oh yeah, ….livin’ the dream. 🙂

One of the most irritating things in monster trucks is relying on someone to do a job and not only have them flake out , but not seem to be bothered at all they left us hanging in the eleventh hour.

The line haul driver that was supposed to bring the trailer to the venue no call / no showed yesterday. I was up until 11:30 last night waiting on him to show. I gave up and set my alarm for 5:00 am so I could drag the trailer to the venue myself this morning. If you commit to something, follow through. If you don’t want to be bothered, just tell me at the beginning so I know I can’t rely on you.

….some people’s kids. I swear.

Well, I wrenched my back bolting the engine and trans in the ride truck. I’m done for the day. I’m gonna go throw up somewhere and cry.

The glamorous life of monster trucks.

Yesterday, (Easter Sunday) I woke up and drove 8 hours to the shop in Texas. Then got all the parts I painted on Thursday out of the booth, got the cab in the booth, prepped it for primer, then laid down a double coat of 2K on it.

To celebrate, I had a frozen dinner in the cab of my truck around 9:00 pm, then went to sleep.

The rest of the crew drove 12 hours back from a mud show that they got monsooned on the day before. Today starts the reset for next week and I will continue on with painting the cab and assembling the ride truck chassis that should be back from powdercoat later today.

This is hard, lonely work.

It's 8:15 on Easter Sunday morning. The family will be coming over for an Easter egg hunt and dinner later on, but I won't be here. I'm all loaded up and getting ready to head out the door to Texas.

Why? ...because we still have a show next week, trucks need attention and a ride truck needs to be built. This is the part that nobody thinks about when they see us at a show.

Sometimes when you break something, it defies explanation.

I mentioned last week I broke a planetary in Gainesville, Georgia. The way I did it made people scratch their head. In a ZF axle, the sun gear is part of the outer axle shaft.

The sun gear and axle shaft? ...pristine.
The bowl gear? (the gear that all the planet gears spin inside) ....pristine.

The planet gears? ......DUST! Never have I seen such complete and thorough destruction of a planetary without so much as a scratch on the bowl gear or sun gear. It was quite impressive.

I found this picture from Syracuse a couple weeks ago. This could be one of the reasons people always tell me to calm down in the indoor arenas. The floor gets awfully small when you try to land something like this. ....and I wasn't even in the throttle that much. I was just having some fun. 😁
