The Women’s Cross Country team traveled to Grand Rapids South Christian on Friday night to compete in the Under The Lights Invitational, an athlete and fan favorite. The athletes took the course at nearly 11pm, embracing the fun and challenging atmosphere.
In the spirit of unity, every athlete stepped up and brought her A-game, contributing to an 8th place finish out of 19 tough teams in the “Nightfall” division. Mia May led the way, medaling and finishing 7th out of 307. Addisyn Wood was 17th overall with a giant PR, grabbing a coveted Medal. Anna May finished 3rd for Sparta in her first varsity 5K with a stellar time of 22:25. Anna Loy’s first 5K was also extraordinary, finishing 4th for Sparta with a gorgeous 22:48 time. Both Annas grabbed a varsity letter with their PR run! Completing the Scoring 5 for Sparta was Finley Koutz with a fantastic letter-earning time, while Emily Costello and Lauren Bradford rounded out the Varsity 7 with equally impressive goal-busting runs.
Sophia Morrell and Makenzie Ringelberg also exceeded their personal goals with finishes very close to our top 7. Congrats to Freshmen Alessandra Guerra for exceeding her expectations in her first varsity 5K, and Sofia Fragale, for her best-ever mile time!
Sparta is in action again on Friday Sept. 4th for the Viking Hokum Karem Invitational in Hopkins.
