Shawshank Hustle race directors pass the baton.
Shawshank Hustle race directors Roger and Christina Bowersock step down and announce that Vertical Runner Race Management of Wooster will continue to keep this annual tradition flourishing in Mansfield, OH.
Brian and Tammy Polen own Vertical Runner of Wooster, a specialty running store and are also the owners of Vertical Runner Race Management, an event management company that produces events ranging from 5k to 50k to the 24-Hour National Championships and offers timing services for 50-75 local races annually. Through their race efforts, tens of thousands of dollars have been raised for local non-profits and adding the Shawshank Hustle to their portfolio will help to quickly increase that number as they raise funds for the Ohio State Reformatory.
The running race starts and finishes at The Ohio State Reformatory, visits five filming sites for The Shawshank Redemption in Mansfield, and gives all participants the option to take a ride on The Richland Carousel.
The Bowersock’s and their company Rocketship Sports Management look forward to more time with family and continuing to grow their original event The Tour de Donut. “The Hustle is a huge undertaking for our small, all volunteer group. With us being located three hours away we really are not able to be involved with things that will help grow the event as much as we would like. Vertical Runner Race Management will be able to do all the things we could not. “
"Having been involved sponsors of the Shawshank Hustle since the first year, and having been exposed to the Mansfield community through our involvement with the Mansfield 13er in 2017, we are more than excited to have a more permanent connection and stake in the community through direction of this race moving forward" said Tammy Polen. "It is such a fun event that raises funds for such a prominent landmark in our region, and we look forward to many more years of success."
"It will be a sad and sweet moment at the end," said Bowersock. "We'll be parting ways with a lot of good people and I will always appreciate everything that they have done to make the race what it is. Mansfield is a great place filled with amazing people and they helped us bring this event from an idea to the largest in the region. The Shawshank legacy is strong and Brian and Tammy are the right team to continue growing this event."
Registration is open and the race will take place June 9 at 8:30 at The Ohio State Reformatory where much of the 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption was filmed.
