Evaluation: “Southard is a physical presence with great cover and a simple approach to defense. He rarely over-extends, and he does a strong job of burying his stick until the opportunity arrises to get a stick deep in gloves. Off-ball he defendes inside out. A specific instance of him having to get in as the fill before rotating to a popping player stands out and was a great display of a combination of anticipation, IQ, and defending with great control. Strong approaches are always important and Southard rarely is a position of having to fly out with bad timing or angle play.”
