Our MEMBER OF THE MONTH for April is our very sweet friend, !! Read her testament below!
1. What were you doing before you started your CrossFit journey and what was the deciding factor that made you start?
“It is hard to believe but I have been doing CrossFit for 13 years (I still suck lol 😊)!! This has been my main form of exercise since walking through those doors all those years ago.
Before that, I would work out at 24 Hour Fitness, do Bikram yoga, run, and do spin classes. I have always exercised in some form or another. I don’t know if there was a deciding factor to exclusively do CrossFit! I just kept showing up. I like the challenge of it, and I love the community it fosters.”
2. What was your biggest challenge, struggle with, when you started working out?
“I think in CrossFit you often compare yourself to others and learning not to do this was a struggle. We all come into the gym with different life experiences, past injuries, careers, family dynamics etc. I try and meet myself each day where I am physically, mentally and emotionally and that is good enough for me.”
3. How do you overcome the challenges you faced to keep attending?
“Honestly, it is just part of my life and what I do. It’s like brushing my teeth or taking a shower. I just come to class” 😊
4. What keeps you motivated?
“Over the years my motivation has changed a lot. My life has changed a lot. In the past I would come to try and get a PR or do the workout RX’d etc. Since my son died almost 4 years ago my motivation is much different. There have been moments over the last 4 years where it has been hard to just breathe. I try and show up knowing this place, will quite literally, make me breathe and it gives me a place to lay my life problems down for a moment and just sweat it out. I am also surrounded by the best community of people. This community showed me a lot of love when he died. People showed up at my house, sat with me, came to his funeral, checked in on me, took me to lunch, listened to me cry. I will be forever grateful for the community that helped me through the worst moment of my life!”
