Ten weeks. 27 athletes. Every test we logged. ⬇️

We didn’t pull each guy’s best early jump and stack it against his best late jump. That’s how you manufacture a number. We averaged the first three tests against the last three — start to finish, off-effort days pulled out beforehand, and only athletes who actually put in a full summer counted. 27 of 41 qualified ✔️

Now the part nobody posts: not every athlete on this list was in a phase where jump height was expected to climb. Some came in needing raw strength before speed and power work would give them anything back. So they stayed in strength work longer instead of chasing a test their training wasn’t built for yet.

Force plate numbers aren’t a line that only goes up. In a heavy accumulation block we expect output to sit flat or come down. That’s fatigue, and it’s the cost of the adaptation. The rise comes later, when volume drops and the work gets expressed. Judging every athlete against the same upward curve on the same week is how you end up training the test instead of the athlete.

Bigger pitchers throw harder. That’s what the research keeps showing ⬇️

Body mass to fastball velocity: r = 0.58. Body mass to pitching momentum: r = 0.83

That’s one of the strongest relationships in all of athletic performance research. And total body mass tracks velocity slightly better than lean mass alone, so you don’t have to be shredded to throw hard.

Here’s what that does NOT mean: eat whatever you want, skip the weight room, and wait for velo to show up.
An r of 0.83 is strong, but it isn’t 1.0.

Mass is the raw material. What turns it into velocity is your ability to move it. Strength, mechanics, mobility, and how efficiently force travels from the ground through the ball. Weight you can’t move fast is just weight.

The real formula is both. Get bigger AND get more athletic. Add mass through food and lifting, then prove you can still sprint, jump, rotate, and repeat your delivery. Gaining 20 lbs while your squat, jump, and med ball numbers all go up is a different athlete than gaining 20 lbs and getting slower.

If you’re a high school arm reading this: don’t stay skinny hoping velo appears on its own, and don’t use “I need to gain weight” as a reason to stop training. Do both. That’s the whole point. 🤙🏼
