The American Ni**od Society (ANS) is an unusual group. In an effort to get in ‘off the ground’, I have offered some great incentives to be a member, not the least of which is getting your membership cost back on the first hunt you book as an ANS member.
BUT the ANS isn’t about money, or prizes, or gifts, it is about a concept. We are WINGSHOOTERS, and this is an organization for wingshooters. We are not just quail hunters, or grouse hunters, or duck hunters, or goose hunters, or crane hunters, or dove shooters, or pigeon hunters, or pheasant hunters, and so on.
We are a group of people joined by our common love of the outdoors and the pursuit of game birds everywhere. We are quail hunters who realize that ‘quail hunting’ just isn’t in the South of the US, but that there are quail hunters in California, Mexico, Argentina, and even in Morocco. We share a passion for duck and goose hunting here in the states with those in Canada, Mexico, South America, and even Africa. We hunt pheasants and partridges over dogs here, and in the UK, and in Eastern Europe, where they are also ‘Driven’ over a line of guns. We shoot feral pigeons in this country because there is no limit on them and they are considered a pest, plus they’re challenging. The same is true in South America, depending on where you hunt, and if there is a limit, it is usually 150 to 200 birds per day. There too they are considered a pest.
Who among us would not like to quail hunt, or duck hunt, or dove shoot in a new area of this country or another, and meet great people who share our love of ‘wingshooting’, who can talk shotgun choices and why, best gear, dogs, boots, shells, and ‘best eats’ after a day afield?
The American Ni**od Society is for and about ‘Wingshooters’ – everywhere, and is meant to be a force for finding new opportunities for all, to generate new hunting locations, new friends, new adventures, and a new understanding that there are many of us, who together, can make a difference for ourselves and others.
Ni**od is not the slang ‘buffoon’ that the name has come to mean from Bugs Bunny’s referring to Elmer Fudd sarcastically as a “nimrod”, but the name, in fact, was a person in the Bible who was “a mighty hunter before the Lord”.
Mighty hunters, who love their sport, and carry out locally, nationally, and globally, those are Ni**ods, and that is the ANS.
Consider joining this year to be a part of something great, and get the benefits of membership as well.
