Description
Provide swim lessons (private or group) to children (6 months and older) and adults of all levels and abilities based on American Red Cross (ARC) standards and program requirements
Responsibilities
The swim instructor is responsible for instructing all swim lesson participants
The swim instructor is responsible for the safety of all participants in their class and is expected to act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of clients in the event of an emergency
Follow scheduled work hours, which includes beginning and ending class on time and notifying clients of unforeseen delays in schedule as soon as possible
Be flexible with changes/additions to the schedule that fall within expected work days and work hours, typically between the hours of 8am and 6pm
Instruct and evaluate students participating in swim lessons
Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled
Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service.
Complete all other duties as appropriate and assigned by owner or manager
Maintain a positive and professional working and living environment with other swim instructors
Required Certifications & Qualifications
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (or equivalent)
American Red Cross First Aid, CPR & AED
Knowledge of and the ability to demonstrate skills in swim lessons instruction
Ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content and use teaching aids such as kickboards, diving rings, etc.
Drive to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm
Ability to positively interact and engage students of all ages
Preferred Qualifications
Prior Lifeguard experience
Prior swim team, water polo, synchronized swimming, or mermaid experience
Enthusiasm for the water and related activities
Prior teaching or coaching experience
Prior customer service experience
Prior experience working with children
