The saddest boat ride of the year. Thank you so much to all of my 2025 clients, to my fellow charter captains in the Portland fleet, to my incredible fellow fly guides, and to the awesome shops that support us all season, including The Tackle Shop, S**o Bay Tackle, and All Points Tackle. One of the most memorable eats of my guiding career. Not a big fish. Not one of ten monsters we put on the boat that day. But it was Bob's first striper, we saw the v-wake, he placed the cat perfectly, and the fish ate viciously. A textbook feed toward the end of a season of relatively few fish and a fishery with an uncertain future. As the continues to grossly mismanage this fishery, these moments become all the more precious. Thanks Bob for a great day on the water.

The magically electric air stood still as the line came tight. Angel's harps could be heard gently wafting over the early evening zephyr as every proton in my body sprung to life. As the fish's dorsal broke the magical plane between water and air, all I could think was: Respect. Gratitude. Hunger. (I could smell the output of the thousand fryolators of Portland's myriad restaurants.) 18" of pure morone magic in my trembling hands. Then I went home and had tacos.

Pretty decent morning on fly and light tackle. Felt like the old days for a few hours.
