A team is a powerful thing. At the time I am writing this, over 1.7 million people pledged to Run with Maud today.
It was an honor, and honestly pretty emotional for me to lead this live event at 6am for . And it was so inspiring to see so Openfit Teammates from all over the country run to show they care.
A few hours later, I did the run myself while .go22 led the charge. Even more teammates and love and inspiration shared. As challenged by Jo, I even did the 26 burpees I would have had Ahmaud do if he had come to my class today.
I kinda hate running, but Ahmaud Arbery loved it so today I ran for him. Every human on this earth deserves to run in safety, without fear.
I love that today’s event was his High School football coach’s idea. A team is a powerful thing.
I have had tears in my eyes all day thinking about this horrible crime, and more so when I think about what it would feel like for this to happen to an athlete I coached. Or a family member.
I know that I am a privileged white woman and that even if I try, I can’t truly comprehend what it would be like to live in fear of violent racism. But I do care, and I am committed to do and say what I can.
Happy Birthday Ahmaud. This run’s for you ❤️
May we see with clarity that we are all on the same team 🙏
