New E-bike Laws and Regulations for 2026

🚲With sunshine in the forecast, it’s the perfect time to hop on your bike and hit the city's paved trails. But before you gear up, make sure you understand the new laws.

🚨REQUIRED SAFETY EQUIPMENT (AB544)
-E-bikes must have a rear red reflector or illuminated red light at all times, day or night
-Riders under 18 must wear a helmet

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦PARENT LIABILITY
-Parents/guardians may be fined or cited for a minor’s failure to wear a helmet (under 18) or for riding non-compliant/unregistered, high-speed E-bikes.

👮IMPOUNDMENT
-Law enforcement can impound high-speed, non-compliant vehicles
-Class 3 E-BIKE being operated by someone under 16
