The To***co Heritage Trail in Brunswick County between the eastern end of Railroad Street in Brodnax and the Meherrin River is now closed for deer hunting season. It will reopen at the end of the season in January.

This is a yearly arrangement that we have with the local hunt club that helps maintain the trail in that area. A part of that segment is also not owned by Roanoke River Rails to Trails, and closing the trail during the season is a part of our agreement with that landowner so that we can use that land for the Trail during other times of the year.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Trail Users: Your input is needed for Southside Planning District Commission's 2050 Long-Range Transportation Plan Update. As part of the update process, SPDC is seeking community input on a variety of transportation related topics through a survey. The responses will help guide transportation planning and improvements by providing a better understanding of the community's preferences, experiences, usage, and needs.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey available here: https://arcg.is/v195r or by using the QR code below. The survey will remain open until August 31st.

For anyone that has noticed THT signs missing at the Evans Creek Road Trailhead, they have not been stolen. We have taken a few down to start replacing the vinyl decals.

Mecklenburg County has begun the process of updating their comprehensive plan. This Plan should consider and support the To***co Heritage Trail.

There are 2 public input sessions coming up where you can provide input to the County to support the To***co Heritage Trail on Thursday night, January 25 in South Hill, and January 26 at noon in Chase City. Your attendance and input at these sessions will be helpful for supporting the Trail in Mecklenburg County.

If you are unsure what to talk about, here are some of the key issues we face in Mecklenburg County (in no particular order):

1.) Work with South Hill to extend the trail from its end at Rocky Branch Road, into South Hill. This is going to require crossing US 58 and I85 as well as detailed planning to route it through town. We probably get more requests for this extension than anything else.

2.) We need funding to tunnel under US 58 so that the trail can be extended west from Washington Street in Boydton, towards Skipwith. From there, we have a plan to continue it on towards Rudds Creek, but the tunnel under US 58 is a major roadblock.

3.) Repaving of the trail between Carter Street in La Crosse, and Airport Industrial Park is necessary as soon as possible.
