Holy Chute

Holy Chute Holy Chute! We lost our model in our neighborhood after losing control. Bryan, our co-founder, was flying his new model. Holy chute!

Holy Chute was inspired by a multi-rotor 'impact' [that's what we're gonna call it, even though evidence suggests that it was a "very controlled landing"]. When the quad began to drift away from him his brother said "Holy!" and Bryan said "Chute!" thus inspiring our company Holy Chute. A parachute would have been the thing to have on it so it would have landed where we could see it and without dam

age. We are aiming to create a parachute "escape system" for RC aircraft, so that the latest and newest pilots can have a button that admits "Holy chute!"

We're working on something *big* for when the cold goes away. We're going to be testing our chutes by dropping a "fake" multirotor from a real quadcopter. Videos to follow. Don't miss out!

New post! 👍🏻

Detecting free-fall is a little bit more complex than I thought, since the raw data from the chips is a little more raw than I anticipated. I'll take inspiration from these guys when trying to figure out how to write the code to smooth out the raw values; but I really know I'm just reproducing thing…

Some of our followers are not exactly sure what is going on with the RC hobby lately. Fortunately, we have the guys at Flite Test who give us some amazing footage of what's really going on. This isn't just a bang-up guy-show, it's a great sport and with the right technology gives us footage like thi…

Last night, I was able to program the Arduino to detect "free-fall"; that is a small program that reads signals from a ADXL345 chip that uses gyros and accelerometers to determine the chip's relative position in 3d space. This is important if we want to develop a system where we want a chute deploym…

With everyone's support we've so far been able to make dozens of prototype parachutes and an Arduino. (Arduino is hard to explain... It's like all of the computer power with which we landed on the moon and slightly less computing power than would be needed to fake it; except that with it we can write programming code to active servos, detect proximity, and detect free-fall... Things that will work nicely together when you need to unleash a parachute without manual intervention if necessary from a free-falling RC aircraft). You guys are really awesome, and know that your donations are getting the most frugal and well thought out use! Holy Chute!
