Thornwood Thunder Swim Team Thornwood Thunder Swim Team is a recreational summer swim league for children aged 5-16 that reside Welcome to the Thornwood Thunder Swim Team.

Established in 2003, Our goal is to create a summer recreational swim team program for Thornwood residents between the ages of 5 and 16 that:

Is designed to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for youngsters interested in competitive aquatics
Provides a child the opportunity to enhance their swimming skills through coaching and through competition with youngsters from other surrounding communities
Emphasizes fun, good sportsmanship, and healthy competition
Most importantly, provide a safe environment for children to experience belonging to a team, as well as learning how to strive for and achieve both personal and team goals.

Thornwood Thunder Waitlist! Thank you to everyone who has reached out with regards to joining the waitlist for Thornwood Thunder. After a technical issue was worked out, I am happy to announce that the waitlist will officially open on Tuesday April 13th at 6pm CST. Some details about how the waitlist will work.

Should a spot open up, we will be replacing a like for like on first sign up, first get basis. What this means is that if a 14 year old boy could no longer be on the team, they would be replaced with a 14 year old boy, or someone in his age group. We will not replace a 14 year old boy with a 7year old girl as that is two different groups and would complicate the coaching assignments with our current capacity.

In the event that spot is unable to be filled by a like for like, we will work our creative magic to figure out how and where to move kids in order to find an open spot for someone. Priority will be given to the family that signs up first for the waitlist.

In the event a new practice group opens up or more spots become available based on guidelines, I will reach out to all families for the new spots.

There is NO cost to join our waitlist. You will have to complete registration (including payment) if and only if a spot opens up. Please make sure you sign your child up for the appropriate waitlist. As always, if you have any questions, just reach out and ask!

Thornwood Thunder waitlist will open by the end of the week. There were some technical issues with the system in trying to double charge when I was testing it. I'm hoping to get this resolved shortly and we can move forward. Current plan for waitlist is to replace a like for like if someone drops out of the summer program and if there is more than one candidate, first registration will get it. What this means is if a 13year old girl ends up not swimming, she would be replaced with another 13year old girl versus a 6year old boy. This is due to capacity of each lane requirements. More details will be posted on Thornwood Thunder webpage once the technical issue is worked out.

Wow only 6 spots left for the summer 2021 season. I’m so grateful for the amazing response and quick sign ups this year. Cannot wait to see all these kids on the pool deck.

Thornwood Thunder registration is going strong! We are currently planning on two virtual meets but obviously that can change with guidelines. This will allow all of the Thunder swimmers to have their parents on deck cheering them on without forcing them to pick a parent. In addition to these two meets, we have some other fun things planned in place of the meets such as Christmas in July, a family bike ride, and our first ever practice that will have a casino theme where the swimmers can "gamble" to determine what strokes and the distance they will swim. Oh and we are planning on an intersquad only meet that will include a parent race, coaches race, and other fun stuff.

Hard to believe this is true but planning is underway for summer 2021 season! We are currently planning two different versions of the team. The first is like a "normal" summer and the second is like this summer with limited numbers and practices. But discussions are already happening with the other teams about next summer!

Where will your swimming take you? 2 of these 4 North High School Seniors swam for Thornwood Thunder back in day. They went on to swim club, High School and were a part of the State Swim Team and now all of them will swim in College... congratulations to Jake Kalenowski, Nate Baxter, Ricky Williams and Siba Filipovic (water polo)
