"In September 2008, I was a spectator at The Pumpkinman Triathlon. I saw athletes of all different ages and abilities, all different shapes and sizes. I saw people who looked like me. They all looked like they were having fun! I thought, "Maybe I could try this."
Registration opened at midnight on Halloween. I was sitting in front of my computer, as excited as a kid waiting to buy concert tickets. Tick-tick ... pulled the trigger! Mind you, I didn't own a bike and could only swim well enough to not drown. Details.
Fast forward to the present, this is my 18th year as a triathlete. I've gained better health, improved confidence, and developed friendships that will last a lifetime.

I will always be grateful to Kat for creating Pumpkinman and to Rachel for guiding it for the past 10 years! It changed my life!"

100 days from today, The Pumpkinman Triathlon & Running Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary at Spring Hill in South Berwick, Maine.

I want to sit with that for a second.

In 2006 Kat Bianconi Donatello had a vision. A race. A community.
A September tradition built on challenge, belonging, and impact. She built Pumpkinman from nothing and 10 years ago she trusted me to carry it forward.

I think about that a lot. Especially this year.

20 years of athletes who woke up before dawn and said yes.
20 years of volunteers who showed up before the sun did.
20 years of families cheering at finish lines.
20 years of this community choosing, every single September, to do something hard together.

Kat started something that outlasted her time directing it. That is the definition of legacy. And this 20th anniversary belongs to her as much as it belongs to every single athlete who has ever crossed that finish line.

This year we celebrate all of it.
New this year: the Grateful Mile, the Pumpkin Patch Dash for our littlest athletes, the Elevated FUN-raising Celebration Zone, and a 20th anniversary experience we have been building all year long.
