Asiatic Archery: Traditions, Equipment, and Technique
This introductory course explores the traditions of Asiatic archery as practiced across Central Asia, the Middle East, China, Korea, Mongolia, and Japan.
Topics include traditional bow designs, arrows, thumb rings, and other specialized equipment. Instruction covers the fundamentals of the thumb draw, shooting mechanics, arrow loading, release techniques, and follow-through, while comparing these methods with the Mediterranean draw commonly used in modern Western archery.
The course combines historical context with practical instruction, providing an introduction to the equipment, terminology, and techniques associated with a variety of Asiatic archery traditions. No prior archery experience is required.
