Breathe: Focus on breathing deeply and mindfully to reduce stress and increase oxygen flow to the muscles. This is a good habit to get into prior to the workout to improve mental clarity, focus, and blood flow going into the workout.
Reflect: Take time to reflect on physical, mental, and emotional experiences to gain a deeper understanding of personal needs and goals. Sometimes we come in, warmup, and just go into the workout without really thinking about what we are trying to accomplish. Taking the time to reflect will help keep the focus clear and us efficient.
Engage: Engage fully in physical activities that challenge and stretch the body, while being mindful of proper form and technique.
Adapt: Continuously adapt and modify workouts to best fit personal needs, goals, and progress. Sometimes things come up and require us to make adjustments before or during a workout. Thatβs ok! Focus on the now and then reflect later.
Trust: Trust in the process of growth, progress, and achievement through consistent and persistent effort. Sometimes our fears mask the true growth we already have. Also remind yourself that growth comes in many different ways. Growth can be very big or small, it is still growth that you achieved.
Heal: Engage in practices that promote healing, such as rest, proper nutrition, and stress management techniques. Doing light mobility, low stress bike/walk/rowing, and breathing exercises can really help promote recovery post workout and potentially offset any muscle soreness.
Exhale: Exhale!!! Congrats, you finished the workout!!! After each workout, exhale deeply to release tension and fully experience the benefits of the workout. You just completed some really tough stuff and focused on being a better version of yourself! Truly incredible !
This, in my opinion, is what I consider a well balanced and integrated approach to fitness, encompassing not just physical activity but also mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Why work on one aspect of health when you can hit them all?
