Something I have been doing for a few years is shooting with vintage camaras. These were taken with a Kodak Brownie "Hawkeye" (I think) on 620 film. I found if I tried to shoot the world and events with my phone or a digital camera I would spend all day taking pictures. Having 12 or 24 shots to work with allows me to enjoy the show and make hard decisions about what to shoot and what not to....

I had been to the races at the venerable 1/4-mile oval at the Ventura Fairgrounds (literally a stone's throw from the Pacific Ocean) many times in the past 25 years, but had never been to the big show - the Turkey Night Grand Prix. For nearly a decade the Murphy Auto Museum in Oxnard has been having a show featuring vintage travel trailer. One of the best features of the show is that most of the campers are open for attendees to go inside. This year the show expanded and was held at the performing arts center in downtown Oxnard, with more than 40 vintage motorhomes and travel trailers, plus vintage tow vehicles. I shot pictures with my cell phone (of course), an Olympus micro 4/3rds mirror-less, and my trusty old Pentax K1000 35mm.

Barn find Packard straight 8 motor for sale. I believe it is about 1949 (23rd series) and a 288 ci model based on the number stamped in the side (H220794). I believe it came out of a running car many years ago. I bought it from a landlord who found it in a garage to keep it from being scrapped. It has been in my garage for 10 years now....

Hard to believe, but it was just about 10 years ago that we first set tire to track with the Billy Beer Futura at Buttonwillow

Except for an unscheduled pit for an hour Saturday morning (crud blocking the main jet) the junkyard 200 six ran like a top all weekend. We finished in 61st out of 135 cars but got no trophy. We live to race another day.

We had to pit after about 45 minutes at the start because we were losing power. It took about an hour of wrenching to clear a grain or sand from the carburator jet and get back out. Now it's faster then before and running great. While we were putted the race was red flagged for a bit because someone was upsidedown.
