Tuesday 11am Thrive Forever Balance Has Room For You

Balance is just like a muscle; when you practice this fitness skill, you get stronger and better at it!

Which is essential for:

👉Stopping a fall before you tumble (because you learn how to recover quickly when you wobble in your daily life)

👉Moving with grace and purpose (perfect for walks and hikes with besties, dancing like no one is watching, and saying “yes” to new and adventurous activities.)

Back Issues? Do This 1 Thing (Even If You Have A Challenging Case)

Back pain is a whole thing, with endless causes and often murky solutions.

The good news is that you can get major parts of your life and activities back, even if you have severe or chronic back pain.

Here’s the one thing you should do when you’re suffering:

🧐🧐Get curious.

Seriously. Pain is a messenger, it’s telling you something about your body and how you move.

Here’s what we do with our clients that report back pain:

😎Start slow and ask questions:

Where does it hurt?

What movement triggers pain and what movements bring relief, no matter how small?

How intense is the sensation?

Does it have a schedule? (like being more severe in the morning but then easing throughout the day…)

What flavor is the discomfort? (Stabbing, shooting, burning, aching, stiffness or soreness?)

What injuries or other conditions are present in your body?

Then, we design gentle movements that:

💪Strengthen compromised muscles near the painful body region without creating more symptoms.

💪Continue to use pain as a messenger—if a movement hurts, we don’t ask you to do it!

💪Balance, stretch, and strengthen your pelvic region (hips, lower spine, deep abdominals, pelvic floor), where so much of our overall support, posture, and movement freedom originates.

💪Build strength and mobility over time—patience and persistence are key with back pain relief.

How Do I Get Stronger (Safely) With Low Bone Density?

The secret to getting stronger with osteopenia and osteoporosis?

🏋💪Challenge your body without punishing it. 🏋💪

And here’s how you do it:

With low bone density, it’s crucial to:

😎Increase your balance/recovery ability, so that when you wobble in real life, you decrease your fall risk.

🏋Lift weights that help build your “bone bank,” which you can do by lifting your own body weight or external hand weights and other weighted items several times per week.

💪Add impact, like heel drops, jumping, and stomping several times per week, taking care to manage any joint issues like arthritis or cartilage wear-and-tear.

If You Can Do This Move, You're Set for Life

There are a few movements that can help you stay independent, confident, and capable for life, and here’s one of them:

The HIP HINGE.

This is the move you use to pick up your groceries, kids and grandkids, suitcases for travel and adventures.

It’s the move you use to pull weeds in your garden, or to shovel, rake, and clean around your home.

When you can do it well, you’re flexible and strong in all the right places, like your lower spine, gluteals (t**h), and hamstrings. It’s the one power move that helps you thrive in every decade.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Stand tall and activate your postural muscles in the upper back and in your belly area. 💪

2. Shift your weight into your heels and bend from your hips only, without curling your spine. 🏋🏼‍♀️

3. Bend your knees just a bit as you keep folding your body forward, reaching for something light for practice, like a pencil or can of soup you’ve placed on the ground. 🏋🏼‍♀️

4. Lift the item and your upper body with your legs, as you “unhinge” your hips, feeling your hamstrings and your glutes shorten and activate as you stand back up. 💪

😎😎Practice this move a few times per day, and experiment with heavier objects, but resist the urge to curl your spine or collapse your upper back and shoulders forward.

Better yet, be sure to get in one of our Bone Strength and Balance classes, where we teach this move and many others everyone needs for strong bodies and movement freedom.

The #1 Secret to Getting Stronger with Pilates

Here it is: Do Pilates (at least!) twice per week. 💪💪

Seriously, the sweet spot for Pilates progress is to enjoy a class or private session two or three times per week.

Mix up your game for best results with a MAT class and a REFORMER class. ‘

Here’s the logic...

Applying the principle of 😎 OVERLOAD 😎 (doing a bit more than your muscles are used to doing) a few times per week with appropriate recovery between sessions accelerates muscle fiber development and neuromuscular connection.

In plain language, when you apply a fitness challenge optimally, your muscles respond fast, and your coordination and balance follow suit.

The only way to really find out is to test the theory.

Commit to two classes per week for 1 month and see for yourself what happens.

Then, let us know what you discovered! Start noticing:

👉Your posture and carriage–do you stand taller with an expanded chest and supported lower spine?

😴Your sleep–do you slumber more restoratively and wake up refreshed?

🛁Your daily chores—do your regular activities like carrying groceries, children, or doing yard work tire you less and go faster?

Here is some news you already know: You CANNOT get your body back after some of the massive changes life puts us through, like aging, childbirth, injury, or chronic condition.

But you CAN create and embrace the body you love, respect, enjoy, and revere for every year of your life from now until forever.
Here’s what you have to do:

1. LEARN about where your body is NOW–in this phase of life, with whatever stress, challenges, or triumphs you have going on. 🤓🤓

2. MOVE your body in the most supportive, restorative, nourishing, strengthening, intuitive ways, every week, for the rest of your life. 🕺🏃‍♀️‍➡️

3. ACCEPT that there will be progress, regression, plateaus, and even more changes—and you’ll work with all of it intentionally, imperfectly, and even gratefully. 😍😍

Now that spring has arrived and we’re (hopefully) feeling refreshed, renewed, and generally healthy with fewer tiny “bugs” hanging around, we are resuming our regular cancellation policy.

How it works👇👇👇

1. If you’re not feeling well, please cancel your class or session with 24 hours advance notice to avoid being charged.

2. Send an email to info@thriveforeverpilates or DM us to let us know you cannot make it in.

3. We’ll confirm your cancellation and offer your spot to the waitlist when appropriate.

4. Rest, relax when you can, eat well, and take care of your body.

5. Reserve another spot when you’re ready—we can’t wait to welcome you in again!

If you can’t use your spot, it helps someone on the waitlist slide in and utilise the space until you’re feeling better.
