A lesson in conductivity:
The American Boat & Yacht Council - ABYC certified electricians at Washburn's Boat Yard were investigating a thermal event that took place on a customers boat. This fuse holder and wiring were servicing the inverter on a 2023 vessel. Believe it or not, the fuse did not blow!
Upon close inspection, we discovered the boat builder installed stainless steel washers between the fuse and the fuse block. Stainless is a poor conductor and when coupled with the high amp draw of the inverter, the heat build up from this high resistance connection was enough to do all this damage without ever drawing more amps than the fuse and other components were rated for.
Just a reminder to make sure your wiring connections are clean and tight, and to insure washers, if used, are only installed above the components and never in the circuit itself!
