Annual Snyder Fishathon

Annual Snyder Fishathon To teach our children to enjoy the adventures in the great outdoors. Come fine us at Towle Park this Spring, on the 2nd Saturday in April!

Some 20+ years ago a bunch of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts started the Annual Snyder Fishathon. The event has been known to host over 500 participants all within the local community and surrounding areas. As everything else in today's society, times have changed but the Annual Fishathon is still thriving to this day. While this event is a fundraiser for the Buffalo Trail Council, Boy Scouts of Americ

a, its true purpose is well known to anyone attending the event: To teach our children to enjoy the adventures in the great outdoors. Opened to everyone, we find that the local scouts, families, and community members are gathered together for this outstanding event and the fun and memories last a lifetime. The mission of the Buffalo Trail Council is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Thank You to everyone who came out last Saturday to help support Scouting in Scurry County. We hope yall had a lot of fun. We'll be putting out information in a few weeks about planning for 2024! Good Wednesday evening. 03/17/2021 @ 7:10pm. So I am going to try to get a Fish A Thon set up this year, it may not be on our usual day. There is a lot that goes into planning this. I currently live out of town and will for some time. First I have to get in touch with the park, then I will have to secure a fish donor. There may not be as many prizes as in the past. There may or may not be as many fish stocked as in the past. If you or someone you know is interested in helping with this event let me know. This is an event put on by a non profit organization as a fundraiser and all help is on a volunteer basis. (325) 436-7772. A date has not been set.

I am going to try to answer some questions that have been asked lately about the Fish A Thon.
Are we going to have the Fish A Thon this year?
Answer- We are hopeful that we get to have it this calendar year. It takes time and money to plan large events. The Scouts BSA are non profit. We rely on support to host this event, with the economy, I can not go ask for help with this event. We spend $3,000.00 every year to stock the pond we need that and much more to hold this event. Also we rely on the people to come to the event. We can not be held responsible for people getting sick or hurt at the event. There is absolutely no way to do this at this time. We host the event on Scurry County property and do not wish to be asked to not do this again. We will need at least two months of planning to host this. Therefore I can not say when we can reschedule the event. I am truly sorry.
How does COVID-19 play into this? Well it has affected businesses, and the public. This event is put on for the youth mostly, I can not subject the youth to things such as this. Also do not want to be part of rising numbers due to an event I have put on. The Scouts BSA have a great program that I do not want to tarnish. We had a successful day yesterday, even with the weather. We had 112 people register to fish. We had 67 total fish weighed in, some fish caught may have been kept. Fish weighed in yesterday anywhere from 1oz to 11 lbs 8oz.

1ST Place—Jacob Kiser 11lb 8oz

2ND Place—Xander Moffett 9 lbs 1oz

3RD Place—Matt Martinez 8lb

1ST Place Scout—Ian Block 9 lb 8 oz

2ND Place Scout—Max Deleon 5 lb 4oz

3RD Place Scout—Ian Block 2 lb 4 oz

Smallest Fish of the Day—Levi Scott 1oz

Good Afternoon!

Want to answer everyone’s question about the Fish A Thon. Yes it will be this Saturday, April 13, 2019. There are no weather cancellations for this event because it is impossible for us to keep the pond closed until another date and stock it again.

We live in and love our great state of Texas! If you don’t like the weather, wait a few moments, it will change. As you know, we can have all four seasons in one week.

Come on out, enjoy God’s country, and the weather he provides. (On a plus side, it is not going to be hot with hurricane force winds like last year.)
