Choosing a rangefinder can be difficult, but there are a few very important features to look for. First, you want to make sure that the unit has great quality optics - without a crystal clear image, you won’t know if you shot the flag stick or the trees behind. Second, user selectable slope feature - you will want to use slope when mapping out a course for the first time or if you are preparing for a tournament, but you will need to be able to turn if off for tournament play. Third, and certainly not the last important feature is replaceable batteries - while a rechargeable unit seems like a great idea, if it goes dead in the middle of your round, there’s nothing you can do quickly to get it back - user replaceable batteries allow you to carry a spare in your bag and swap when needed instead of having to wait for the device to charge before use.
