Our JV Lady Spartans used a late surge Friday evening to push past the Kennesaw Mountain Lady Mustangs thanks to a big fifth inning.
The Spartans scored seven runs in the fifth inning, which helped them defeat Kennesaw Mountain 10-3 on Friday. Maddie Tasker singled, scoring two runs, Ella Hammers singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Harper DeBusk grounded out, scoring one run, and Nava Turner drew a walk, scoring one run.
Kennesaw Mountain jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning, however the defense locked in and shut down the Mustangs the rest of the way.
Campbell tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a single by Violet Chenot, and a double by Kendall Abney.
Abney earned the win for the Spartans as she recorded her first High School win, as a pitcher. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking two.
Out Spartans accumulated 11 hits in the game. Tasker, Nadia Barbour, Hammers, Chenot, and Abney each collected two hits for Campbell JV Spartans. Hammers led Campbell JV Spartans with two runs batted in. The left fielder went 2-for-2 on the day. Turner paced the team with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Barbour stole three bases, leading the Spartans, who ran wild on the base paths, piling up seven tolen bases for the game.
Next up for the Campbell JV Spartans is a game at Walton Junior Varsity Raiders on Monday.
