Between 1990 and 1995, Ramon Dekkers faced 27 of the toughest Thai opponents. Although many of those fights ended in decision losses, they were five-round wars — and back then, beating a Thai on home soil was nearly impossible unless you scored a knockout. In an era when very few foreigners ever set foot inside the legendary Lumpinee Stadium, Dekkers carved his own path and opened the doors for future generations of fighters. Empower Muay Thai has always been a passion project — a true mom-and-pop labor of love. Those two roots shaped how we responded when a major health issue threatened our ability to keep sharing authentic Muay Thai with everyone, no matter their experience or ability.

We took to heart the words of our coach, George Tsutsui: never give up.

So we’re adjusting, rebuilding, and refocusing. We’re scaling down to offer small-group classes and private training, while also bringing Coach Fred’s community programs to life.

It’s a new chapter — smaller, but full of heart. Stay tuned to see what we have in store. ❤️

There are still venues in Thailand that fight with wraps only.

Muay Thai and its beginnings: back in the 1920s, the art was known as Kard Chuek, when fighters wrapped their hands with h**p ropes instead of wearing gloves. This ancient form of Muay Boran was raw and unforgiving, every strike carrying the weight of tradition and danger. Before modern rules and gloves were introduced, Kard Chuek represented the pure essence of Thai combat - strength, honor, and heart 🇹🇭
