The U.S. fitness industry just hit a major milestone.
81 million Americans now belong to a gym. 26% of the population.

Why isn't this BIG news?
The fitness industry now focuses on the newest pathways to fitness. Including: GLP-1s, AI-driven workouts, recovery wellness, performance fitness, connected fitness, longevity programs, pickleball and more. It all attract new members, which supplements the traditional offerings.

The real story is in the results:
∙ 72.9 million gym members in 2023
∙ 77 million gym members in 2024
∙ 81 million gym members in 2025

That's growth of more than 8 million members in two years.

This growth has occurred while many gyms have increased dues, and not with reduced discounting. The fitness industry also recorded roughly 7 billion visits in 2025, suggesting people aren't just joining clubs, they're actively using them.

Strength training has moved from a niche activity to a mainstream lifestyle. Younger members are embracing resistance training earlier. Older adults are increasingly training for longevity, mobility, and quality of life. Gyms are responding by making sure their spaces reflect this.
