Let me brag on this girl for just a minute.

Savannah came to work with us at only 15 years old. She is one of the sweet faces you see when you enter the proshop.

She walked through the doors as a young girl with a strong work ethic, and I have had the privilege of watching her grow into an amazing young woman.

She’s the kind of person you can count on.

She doesn’t call out. She shows up. She works hard. She does what needs to be done. And when you’re running a place like this, having someone you KNOW you can count on means more than people realize. Someone you can trust!

And as a funny inside joke, she’s now driving better and worked hard for her drivers license.

Savannah is one of my strongest rocks. ❤️

She makes the long days a little easier. And the hard days a little lighter. They are the ones you look around for because you know, “Yep… Savannah’s here. We’re gonna be alright.”

When she’s not working, you’ll find her playing her piano or practicing Tae Kwon Do. She’s got her own talents, her own dreams and her own path she’s making in this world.

But one thing I hope she always knows is that she has made our little corner of the world a sweeter place to be.

Sometimes people come into your workplace as employees and somewhere along the way, they become family.

That’s Savannah. ❤️

I’m proud of you, girl. And I’m thankful for every day you’ve spent with us. Thank you for all you do.

💙 Let me recognize Mr. Carter Benson today.

Some people come into your life because of a job… and then somewhere along the way, they become so much more than an employee.

That’s Carter.

Over 4 years ago, Carter started out as one of our lifeguards. Just a young teenager back then. And who says a young teenager can’t become one of your rocks? Because I’m here to tell you… they absolutely can.

Today, you’ll see Carter greeting you with that smile when you walk into the pro shop.

Most of the time, you’ll find him behind his camera, capturing sports and the athletes he loves to film.

And on top of all that, he’s busy with college, staying one busy young man.

I’ve watched this young man grow over the years, and I couldn’t be prouder of him.

You may not always realize the difference you make, but I do.

Thank you, Carter, for everything you do for this golf course. You don’t go unnoticed… not even a little bit. ❤️

🏌️‍♂️ GOLFER OF THE WEEK — Mr EDDIE HOBSON

This one is special to me. I’m always asking him questions, he’s a smart fella. He’s my go to golfer.

He loves his God, his wife, his game of golf, the puppy dog he doesn’t claim, and his ci**rs. And I love his advice.

Eddie Hobson is one of those people who has been a part of our golf course for so long that when you talk about the history of this place, you really need to talk about Eddie.

He has played here for over 50 years. Can you imagine all the stories, friendships and memories he has collected.

Eddie has worn a lot of hats over the years. He loves to coach golf, he has served as a school principal at DeKalb West, and has spent a lifetime giving back to our community. He knows so much about the history of this place, and I could probably sit and listen to his stories all day long.

And then there’s his sweet wife, Jane a former teacher, who is just as precious as they come. ❤️

Eddie, thank you for all the years you have given to this golf course and to our community. Thank you for the stories, the history, the friendships and simply for being YOU.

Eddie, thank you for being part of our golf course family for more than five decades. We are lucky to have you, and I’m proud to call you our Golfer of the Week! 🏌️‍♂️❤️

At 4:45ish today, I clocked out after 73 straight days without a day off.

Every day, if we are lucky and blessed, we get to go to work.

My job is a little bit of everything. I clean toilets, take out trash, handle complaints, make schedules, count hours, organize golf matches, marketing, picture taker, wash golf carts, run to the store, go to the bank, fix hot dogs and warm up pizza, morning workouts, manage the daily course task and take care of your life guards and train with your life guards. (With a great team of course).

But today, when I walked out the door at 4:45ish, I knew we took care of every person who walked through those pool gates this summer.

Everyone is safe. Everyone went home.

And that’s what matters.

Now I’m going home, cooking myself some supper, turning off my phone and enjoying a little rest.

73 days.

What a summer. 💛

Thank you City of Smithville for letting me serve you! And for trusting me with your most precious kiddos. It’s a job that weighs heavy.

Drum roll please….

❤️ And now for a very special announcement …

This summer, we did something we’ve never done before.

I asked our guards to vote for Guard of the Year. Not because I wanted to choose one, but because I wanted to know who they felt deserved it.

We all see who shows up.
Who helps their teammates.
Who encourages others.
Who jumps in when needed.
Who cares about the kids.
And who gives a little extra without being asked.

So the votes were cast…

And our very first Guard of the Year is…

🏆 Kiece Hannah! 🏆

Kiece, this one is extra special because your teammates chose you.

Every one of these guards has brought something special to our pool, and I couldn’t be more grateful for each of them.

But today, we celebrate YOU, Kiece. ❤️

Congratulations on being our very first Guard of the Year!

What a great write up! Thank you!

Over the summer, several of DeKalb County’s teenagers made a life-saving difference as lifeguards at the Smithville Swimming Pool. As of Wednesday, July 29

No introduction is needed for Mr. Wyatt Carter. ❤️ The crowd favorite.

Wyatt has always been a natural leader—encouraging teammates, stepping in to help, and making sure the kids around him feel seen and supported.

He’s our fearless one 💪🏼—the person you want beside you when something needs to get done.

This was his fourth summer with us, and he’s remained someone we can always count on.

What stands out most is that Wyatt lifts people up, makes them laugh, and reminds them they matter.

Wyatt, thank you for four summers of hard work, leadership, and heart.

You’ve been a special part of our pool family💙💦 You are truly an amazing lifeguard!

💦 Our Last Day of Summer 💦

I know some of you are going to be a little sad when you hear this… but today is officially our last day at the pool for the summer. ❤️

We will be open today from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

To our amazing lifeguards—these young adults have worked long hours, hot days, and most have shown up day after day to make sure our pool was safe, fun, and ready for you.

They gave up summer days with their friends and families to be here. They watched the water, stayed alert, handled the heat, and made memories with so many of you.

And to the public who came through the gates this summer—THANK YOU!

We truly have had the BEST summer. ☀️💦

So come see us today. Swim, laugh, splash, make one more memory, and tell these young men and women thank you for everything they’ve done.

And I already know… I’m going to miss it. 🥹💙

Thank you, Smithville, for another incredible summer at the pool.
