After receiving numerous calls of concern, we felt it was necessary to reach out to the parents in our community who have children riding electric scooters and electric bikes. I have spoken to several kids who do not possess the ability to comprehend the dangers of racing down hills and through intersections. Some are traveling on the wrong side of the street and even riding on the streets after dark. So parents….. PLEASE speak with your children and monitor their use of these devices.

Take a moment and google “electric scooter crashes with kids” and you will see the widespread concern with unsupervised activities involving these scooters.

E-scooters are enforced like bicycles are. They must obey all the laws bicyclists do when operating on public streets. We encourage parents to ensure their children also wear protective gear while riding.

Madison Howland of Smith Center broke all three of the distance race meet records in the 1A/2A division of the Beloit Relays today. She ran the 3200 meters in 10:58.75, 1600 meters in 5:11.86 and the 800 meters in 2:21.16. Howland is the defending state champion in the 2A 1600 and 3200 as a freshman last spring.
