🎣 One trip, multiple species!

One of the things that makes fishing in Sitka so special is the variety beneath the surface. While targeting salmon, you may also have the opportunity to catch lingcod, rockfish, or halibut.

Even better? These different fishing grounds can be surprisingly close together, meaning less time traveling between spots and more opportunities to drop a line.

You can’t recap a season in Sitka without giving lingcod their moment in the spotlight!

These toothy, hard-fighting fish are a favorite around here, and they’re pretty fascinating once you get to know them. Lingcod are actually greenling, not true cod, and sometimes they are blue.🐟

Want the opportunity to keep a “barn door” halibut? 🎣

The Guided Angler Fish (GAF) permit gives our guests the opportunity to keep a halibut of any size, in addition to the daily bag limit. And this past season, our guests definitely took advantage! We had some absolute monsters make their way to the dock. 💪

The Puzel family joined us this May for our Big ’But Battle and left us with a couple of halibut stories we won’t soon forget.

On their first day of fishing, 11-year-old Kaelyn landed an impressive 108-pound halibut. Two days later, her dad JJ followed it up with a 196-pound halibut of his own!

Kaelyn’s fish held on to the Round 1 title, making her our 2026 Round 1 Big ’But Battle winner. JJ’s halibut was landed after the cutoff, but it still made for an incredible finish to their trip.

These flatfish may not always look like your typical catch, but they sure know how to make things interesting once they’re on the line! 🎣💪 Halibut are a favorite target in Sitka, and catching one is always a fun part of the day on the water.

🎣 The 2026 season is in the books. Time to check the scorecard.

It was a season of fish that kept us guessing. Kings were inconsistent, silvers ranged from wide-open bites to a little hard-earned grinding, halibut and rockfish kept the rods bent, and the lingcod fishing was nothing short of A+.

We also had some serious oddballs show up: ocean sunfish, a baby salmon shark, king crab, a Humboldt squid from 1,200 feet, and even a s***m whale cruising through.

And then there’s everything that doesn’t fit on a scorecard: breaching whales, sea otters, snow-capped mountains, Pacific weather, and a whole lot of stories told back at the dock.

So how did each fishery grade out?

🐟 King salmon are a favorite among our captains and guests, and here’s why!

These powerful fish bring some of the most exciting action of the season, with bites that can go from slow to nonstop in minutes. May and June are prime time to get in on the action!

With plenty of kings around, our captains can adjust locations and techniques to stay on the fish. Using light tackle, mooching, and jigging, we target kings around concentrated bait.

And when the bite is on, things can get exciting fast, with doubles and triples always a possibility! 🎣💪

A family tradition, carried on to the next generation.🧑‍🤝‍🧑🐟

Ernie joined us this season at just 10 years old for his second trip, following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, Ernie Peterson.

Ernie Peterson fished with us from the very beginning and turned Sitka into an annual family tradition. Some years, he even made the trip twice! Over the years, he shared his love of fishing and the water with the people he loved most.

This summer, we had the honor of welcoming back his great-grandson, who not only shares his name, but his love of fishing too. 🎣

Ernie capped off this year’s trip with Captain DJ by landing their biggest king salmon of the trip, making for a special moment in a family tradition that continues to live on. 🐟⚓️

We’re honored to be part of such a special family tradition. ❤️🐟

🐟 May brought some beautiful king salmon to the boats!

King salmon are a prized target when fishing in Sitka. Known for their strength and fighting spirit, they can put anglers to the test, sometimes taking you on a run around the boat before they’re finally landed! 🎣

May and June are prime months for targeting king salmon, making it a great time to get out on the water and chase these incredible fish. 🌊⚓️
