Rock Steady Boxing at The Inn on Westport

Rock Steady Boxing at The Inn on Westport The first and only Rock Steady Boxing affiliate program in South Dakota. CAMARADERIE
Friends for boxers and caregivers.

Rock Steady Boxing – The Inn on Westport, an affiliate program of Rock Steady Boxing, Inc., enables individuals with Parkinson’s disease to fight their disease by providing non-contact boxing-style fitness programs that are designed to improve their quality-of-life and sense of efficacy and self-worth. Recent studies also suggest that intense exercise programs may be “neuro-protective,” actually working to delay the progression of symptoms. Rock Steady Boxing provides encouragement by inspiring maximum effort, speed, strength, balance and flexibility. Boxing works by moving your body in all planes of motion while continuously changing the routine as you progress through the workout. Rock Steady Boxing classes may benefit anyone, at any level of Parkinson’s, and may actually lessen their symptoms and lead to a healthier, happier life. CLASSES

The South Dakota Parkinson’s Foundation held their Spring Awareness Conference this past weekend. Coach Lisa and several Rock Steady Boxing fighters were honored to be asked to present and demonstrate at the Friday night meet and greet with this year’s keynote speaker, Maryum “May May” Ali!

Maryum is Muhammed Ali’s oldest daughter, and she was so tickled to see photographs of her father’s likeness as the backdrop of our gym. She signed autographs, spoke about her father’s journey with Parkinson’s, shared her insight into this chronic disease and shared many wonderful stories about her father.

Attendees enjoyed many other speakers of varying topics and explored the vendor fair where Rock Steady Boxing had a booth.

As part of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, we’re highlighting Kent and his journey with Rock Steady Boxing at The Inn on Westport.

When first diagnosed, Kent’s symptoms were relatively mild, and he initially referred to his diagnosis as a “minor inconvenience.” Over time, his strength declined, leading to challenges with mobility and balance.

While searching for additional support, Kent discovered Rock Steady Boxing, a program designed to help individuals fight back against Parkinson’s.

Since joining, he has experienced improvements in strength, mobility and overall well-being, while also finding a strong sense of community. Learn more by visiting blog.thegoodmangroup.com/kents-story.

Though there is no cure for Parkinson’s today, Rock Steady Boxing has been proven to improve challenges associated with Parkinson’s. It also can slow the progression of symptoms.
