With heavy hearts, we are sharing that Sioux Falls City FC will be pausing business operations following the sudden passing of one of our owners, Eric Thomas. The vision of CITY will continue through the Foundation.
For five years, CITY has been so much more than soccer. It’s been a place where women came together to compete, grow, and belong; where teammates became sisters, strangers became family, and young fans had women athletes to look up to. The true impact of this club will never be measured by wins or losses, but by the people it connected and the lives it touched.
This decision comes from love, grief, and a deep desire to honor Eric, our family, and the organization with the care it deserves. While club activities will be paused as we navigate through this difficult time, the vision that CITY was built on will continue to live through the Foundation.
Eric’s vision of opportunity, inclusion, support, and believing in people does not end here. Through the Foundation, CITY will carry on his legacy. We are committed to carrying that mission forward in a new way — ensuring that everything CITY stood for endures beyond the pitch. For now, club operations are on pause as our family takes time to grieve, care for one another, and navigate life without Eric. But even in this season of loss, we take comfort in knowing that the Foundation will serve as a lasting home for the values Eric championed.
The path may look different, but the vision, mission, and heart remain the same.
Thank you for believing in CITY.
CITY FOR LIFE.
